we need more like you!

We need your help! YWCA's In the Company of Women luncheon is one of the most successful fundraising events in the state of Connecticut. This event brings together an amazing group of women--and a few good men--to share an afternoon of laughter and inspiration. As a Table Captain, you play a vital role, and we need more like you. Please help us recruit Table Captains.

welcome table captains!

TC Women

Thank you for choosing to be a Table Captain for the 17th annual YWCA In the Company of Women luncheon on March 20, 2012. If you haven't already confirmed your status as a Table Captain for this event, please contact Denice Graves at (860) 525-1163 ext. 269, or DeniceG@ywcahartford.org.

Our keynote speaker this year is Rosie Perez, actress and activist. Perez has been a vocal activist for a number of causes and will deliver an inspiring message that celebrates culture, diversity and the empowerment of all women. To learn more about Rosie Perez, read her bio.

Your commitment to YWCA's mission--eliminating racism and empowering women--and the essential programs and services we provide to the community (read about YWCA'S Money Conference for Women) makes a difference, and we thank you for your support.

Once again, we are proud to bring you the Table Captain e-newsletter communication series-- specifically designed to help you be a successful Table Captain. This year we are adding short video clips from long-standing Table Captains who will share their tips and motivation for serving in this leadership role.

We hope you enjoy this first e-newsletter. The tips and tools will get you started in your role as Table Captain. We look forward to another successful year!

what to do this week

1. Confirm your status as Table Captain: Did you confirm your status as Table Captain? If not, contact Denice Graves at (860) 525-1163 ext. 269, or DeniceG@ywcahartford.org. Once you are confirmed as a Table Captain, we will send you a Table Captain Packet to get you started. The sooner you confirm, the sooner you can get started!

2. Get talking--create online and offline buzz: Word of mouth marketing is the easiest and quickest way to get the word out. Here are some things you can do to create online and offline buzz.

Online:
  • If you have your own web site, please add YWCA In The Company of Women luncheon to your web calendar (March 20, 2012).
  • Consider adding a "save the date" to your e-mail signature. Ex: Join me at YWCA's In the Company of Women luncheon with Rosie Perez on March 20, 2012!
  • Post the date on your LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter account. When "Tweeting" about the event use #ywcaperez.  Use our Social Media Tip Sheet
  •  Remember to include a link to YWCA's web page for all luncheon communications. (http://www.ywcahartford.org/luncheon.php

Offline:

  • Mention the luncheon during gatherings with friends and colleagues.

  • Mention the event during personal phone calls.
  • Don't forget those holiday parties--it's the perfect time of year to mention charitable events.

money conference for women

YWCA's Money Conference for Women

has been giving women of all ages and backgrounds the power to prosper for ten years. Each year, over 400 people participated in this FREE event and leave feeling empowered to take charge of their finances.

The Money Conference for Women is designed to address the unique financial challenges women face in their work and personal lives. Women still earn less than men working in the same job. The gap between income levels for women of color is even greater. Wage disparities in life increase a woman's likelihood that she will suffer financial insecurity and live in poverty during her later years. The Money Conference for Women is just one example of how YWCA helps women manage their financial well-being.

This year the Money Conference for Women celebrated its 10th anniversary. Michelle Singletary, author and columnist, was the keynote speaker and taught us all to appreciate what we have and reminded us that we are all rich. Attendees also participated in individual workshops on various topics including credit and debt, homeownership, planning for retirement and investing. An expo of financial services was also available.
