Did you know?
  • More than 396,000 middle-skill job openings - jobs that require more than a high school diploma but less than a four year degree - are expected for the state by 2016.
  • In addition, 45 percent of all jobs in the state are classified as middle-skill, but only 32 percent of Massachusetts workers likely have the credentials to fill them.
What are we doing to address this middle-skill gap in our state?

This week, SkillWorks, the Workforce Solutions Group, and a broad range of business, labor, and community partners launched the Skills2Compete Massachusetts campaign with this vision:

Every MA resident should have access to at least two years of education or training past high school so that they have the vocational credential, industry certification or Associates Degree needed to succeed in today's economy.  Residents should also have access to basic skills, support, and financial aid needed to pursue such education.

To realize this vision, Skills2Compete MA recommends:
  • investing in and supporting regional partnerships that meet business needs for a skilled workforce;
  • creating better, more accessible pathways to middle-skill jobs that connect basic skills, post-secondary education, workforce training, and support services to middle-skill jobs; and
  • increasing our state's investment in programs to help workers gain middle skill credentials and jobs.
Will you join us in endorsing this vision?

As always, please contact us if you have any questions or need more information.

Thank you for all you do,
