Dear Friends,
Saturday's Boston Globe featured a story - " Worried Workers Race to Retool; Adults head to school in droves, fretting over layoffs, a lack of skills" - about workers seeking new education and training opportunities during this economic downturn to bolster their resumes. The Healthcare Training Institute, sponsored by SkillWorks and led by Jewish Vocational Services, was highlighted in the story as an example of a program working to fill the gaps between workforce development and post-secondary education. The story features the experience of a student at one of the ESOL classes offered by the Healthcare Training Institute and references data from Northeastern University's Center for Labor Market Studies that shows that Massachusetts has fallen behind the national average in awarding Associate's Degrees. We continue the work of connecting job seekers to employers in need and to highlight the success that our programs have in meeting the needs of both employers and employees. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Loh-Sze Leung Director SkillWorks: Partners for a Productive Workforce
