Hi Folks!
Tomatoes. It's Tomato Season. It's now or never for making and/or canning or freezing Tomato Sauce, Paste, Puree etc. Thee picking is as fast and easy as I have ever seen. CSA Members should plan on picking plenty of extra Tomatoes THIS WEEK! Time, Tide and Tomatoes wait for no man (person?). Seriously, please help yourself this week. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you on Saturday from 11 until 3, Sunday from 3 until 5 and on Monday from 9 until noon. If you know the field to pick in you may come on your own anytime. No Charge for CSA Members, $2 a pound for non Members.

Its Still Dry! For the eighth month in a row I have tilled land to prepare for planting and come in from the job covered just black with dust. It is still extremely dry. Fortunately Arrowhead has had adequate water from our artesian well and irrigation pond to grow our crops. Oh, and did I ever mention that Newburyport receives almost a half million gallons of drinking water each day from the Aquifer at Arrowhead? Don't blame us for the taste, though; it is mixed with surface water from the Artichoke Reservoir before you get to drink it. More on this later when we have more time. |
 This Week's Share
Sweet Corn, Watermelon, Jade Green beans, Kale, Romano Gold Beans, , Sweet Peppers, lots of Tomatoes, Cippolini Onions, Sun Gold Cherry Tomatoes in Greenhouse #5 and the first of the Fall Crop Potatoes and Fall Lettuce. The Cutting Garden Shares will have Thyme, Chives, Sage, Parsley, Lemon Thyme, Mint, plenty of fresh Basil for Pesto or Tomato Sauce, a bit of Rosemary and a nice crop of Lemon Verbena. That would be great, Katerina, it's Tomato season! Some serious canning is something folks should do more of. And you are certainly not annoying; three generations canning Tomatoes together? It doesn't get much better than that. That's just what The CSA at Arrowhead is all about. ----- Original Message ----- From: Katerina To: Dick Chase Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2012 3:32 PM Subject: another tomato request :)
Hi Dick and Paula, I have a tomato question, I hope I am not annoying. My mother in law have offered to can with me! And we were hoping to do it tomorrow ( Friday ) night. I have some tomatoes left but would like to pick some more so we can do some serious canning. Is it OK with you if I came with Irina tomorrow (Fri) and picked another box in the same place? Please let me know, Katerina

Good morning Dick! Hope this message finds you doing well? Thank you for the box of the Ukranian tomatoes last week. I liked their meaty texture and earthy taste very much!!! Quick question for you, since it sounds like we may not see you on the farm today- is there something for PYO for farm members this week? We enjoyed the easy picking of tomatoes & if ok would love to do it again. Please let me know. Thank you! |

Still a full week of Summer to come---best be enjoying it. Cheers, Dick Chase
