Heart of it All
Greetings!

Last week's Mayors' Charity Golf Classic was a great success and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the organizers, donors, sponsors and volunteers who were responsible for that success.

I certainly cannot name all of them, the list is too long, but you know who you are. And we simply cannot thank you enough.

You will read more about the event below, and I encourage you to click on the link to read the full story and see all of the pictures from the day. If you were there, you will enjoy seeing it again. If you were not, you will definitely be making plans to be there next year when you see the fun that was had.

Best regards,

Chad Hanna

A tournament Cheque Presentation
to remember

The Men's Health program at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital has received a tremendous boost thanks to the 2012 Mayors' Charity Golf Classic, with more than $100,000 raised this year toward purchasing a new portable ultrasound machine for the community hospital.

Event co-chairs, Jim Witty and Bill Collier, are proud that the tournament has now reached a total of nearly $2.5 million for Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, in the 17 years it has been held. They expressed their appreciation to Ajax Mayor Steve Parish, Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan, and Regional Chair Roger Anderson for taking part and helping to make it one of the most popular tournaments in Durham Region, year after year.

Music Healz

A special thanks to the great folks at Zone Music for organizing Music Healz, a charity rock marathon, Sept. 16, at Grizzly's Pub in Pickering.

The 10-hour show featured some amazing bands and organizers collected $10 entry fees throughout the day, along with donations, to go toward Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

Ribfest adds Rotary Club of Scarborough
up to big donation

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Scarborough, and thousands of hungry participants of the club's annual Ribfest this past August, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation received a generous gift of $4,000 to support excellent, local health care for the patients of Rouge Valley Centenary hospital.

Rotary Club of Scarborough President, Adam McBrain, presented the funds to a representative of the foundation at their regular meeting, Sept. 18, at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club. An equal amount was donated to the Scarborough Hospital Foundation. The Rotary Club says it is proud that a community event such as Scarborough Ribfest can support each of the hospitals that provide excellent care to local residents.

Diana is 2012 Diana and Jim
Sokolowski
Award winner

The Mayors' Charity Golf Classic, aside from a great day on the links, is an opportunity for the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation to announce the recipient of the Howard Sokolowski Award, presented to an individual who has shown great dedication to health care in the community.

A closely-guarded secret until the post-golf dinner, this year's recipient was revealed to be Diana Hills-Milligan, who has been involved for a number of years as a leader in numerous fundraising activities supporting the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, dating back to the 1990s.

Volunteers make Pat Campkin
the difference

The Mayors' Charity Golf Classic recognized the volunteers of the event for their contribution, Sept. 11, during the evening's speeches.

"The unsung heroes of this event, (are) the volunteers who make this event run so well," said event co-chair Jim Witty. "More than 30 volunteers join us at the tournament each year to make sure everything runs as smoothly possible. These volunteers come from the community, our partner corporations and hospital staff and we cannot thank them enough for their hard work, dedication and for their valuable time.
