Greetings!
Now that school is in full swing, we send our best wishes to all of the students who are back in the classroom this week. The Foundation is very fortunate to have great support from student volunteers in many of our activities and through school groups' fundraising efforts.
And although the summer has ended for students, our calendar is still full in the coming weeks, with warm-weather activities. Everyone here is looking forward to next week's Mayors' Charity Golf Classic, Sept. 11, and then the Who's Your Caddy? Ladies-Only Golf Tournament, on Sept. 20.
But those are only two of the great events coming up. I encourage you to look at our calendar of events included at the end of this eNewsletter. I'm sure you are going to see one or two activities you don't want to miss.
Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our friends at the Scarborough Mirror for making the Tree of Life celebration at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital front page news on Aug. 31. We are very proud of the new tribute wall and our relationship with local Shoppers Drug Mart owners who are so generous to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation.
You can read more about that event and more in this edition of our eNewsletter.
Best regards, Chad Hanna, President & CEORouge Valley Health System Foundation

As new parents, family members and visitors come and go at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital's (RVC) Birthing and Newborn Centre, their attention will be drawn to a colourful new tribute to the special people who have received care at the Community Hospital. It was made possible thanks to the generosity of Toronto East Shoppers Drug Mart Associate Owners, their customers and employees, in a gift made last fall. The Tree of Life wall was unveiled at a special event on Wednesday, Aug. 29, to recognize the twelve distinct Shoppers Drug Mart Associate Owners who chose to support RVC by directing funds from their Tree of Life program to Centenary, their local hospital. Day at the Races a big hit again
Free Family Fun Day at the Races returned Aug. 19 at Ajax Downs and two of the most popular Toronto Maple Leafs of all time, Darryl Sittler and Wendel Clark, were there to make this the best event in the three years the track has been supporting the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. Ajax Downs and the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario, Inc. once again hosted the free community event to support Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, and thousands of people came out to enjoy the event and the many free activities.

Do you know who your caddy is?
The golf event of the year is fast approaching and foursomes are almost all spoken for, for this year's Who's Your Caddy? Ladies-Only Golf Tournament, Sept. 20 at Whitevale Golf and Country Club. If you haven't taken part before, you won't find a golf event that is more fun and less competitive than this tournament. For a look at some of the crazy fun the golfers and caddies enjoyed last year, click here. Pictured: Dressing up for the occasion is encouraged! Caddy Dan Pearson assisted the Black & McDonald team of Dawn Dabarno, April Jackson, Cindy Earle and Ashley Martin. To register to play, email Heather at hmontague@rougevalley.ca. |

Dr. Allan Eckhaus was the special guest of the Patrons' Council at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital on Sept. 6, 2012. The respected doctor spoke about his work as a plastic surgeon at RVHS. A penny saved is a penny donated
Now that the Canadian penny is being phased out, it's time to find a good use for all those pennies you have in jars at home. Our great volunteers at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital are collecting pennies to support all of their fundraising activities.
You are encouraged to bring your penny collections to either hospital and drop them off at the volunteer information booths. As of this week, the penny drive by the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital has raised a total of $222.77.
The Auxiliary are very appreciative of this support and hope you will continue to bring in your pennies!
