Heart of it All
Greetings!

It has been a great summer so far for the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation and we hope it has been for you as well.

The proof of just what a great summer it has been is contained in the news items included in this edition of the eNews. And as you read, we hope you will also have your calendar out as you look ahead to news of the interesting September events we have lined up.

As always, thank you for your ongoing generosity and support. I look forward to seeing you at one or more of the special events coming up in the weeks ahead. And if you haven't made plans to be at Ajax Downs this weekend for Free Family Fun Day at the Races, I encourage you to come out for a great day.

Best regards,

Chad Hanna

Wheelchairs make Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre gift
impact in patient
care at RVHS

A special thank you to the past presidents of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Scarborough who visited Rouge Valley Centenary hospital on Aug. 13. The Centre made a generous donation to Rouge Valley Centenary hospital to purchase 20 new wheelchairs earlier this year and Foundation staff gave the guests a tour of one of the floors where the chairs are being put to good use.

Current Centre President Mohana Thirukesan explains that "the response was so good, so overwhelming," to the 'Love on Wheels' project.

"When you collect donations for a mortgage, that doesn't have the same impact. But wheelchairs, that reached their heart."

Pictured: Mohana Thirukesan, Geetha Vigneswaran, Mani Pathmarajah, Logi Mariathasan and Sarada Yogeswaran, all past presidents of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Scarborough, visited the staff of the 9th Floor at RVC on Aug. 13 to see how the wheelchairs were being used.

Ribfest a big Scarborough Ribfest
supporter of
local hospitals

Scarborough Ribfest was a big hit on a warm and beautiful August long weekend.

Organized by the Rotary Club of Scarborough, Scarborough Ribfest represents the organization's largest annual fundraising event. This year, the event supported both the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation and The Scarborough Hospital Foundation.

Volunteers from both Foundations greeted attendees of Ribfest throughout the weekend and accepted donations. Among the celebrity judges in the rib contest this year was RVHS President & CEO Rik Ganderton.

On behalf of both hospital Foundations, we would like to express our gratitude to the volunteers who gave generously of their time and to the Rotary Club of Scarborough for their generous support.

Classic tourney  Golf Classic
for Foundation

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's 22nd Annual Golf Classic was a hit with golfers, Aug. 2 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Stouffville.

This year, the tournament supported the Heart of it All campaign, with Dr. Paul Galiwango, one of Rouge Valley's cardiologists and a co-chair of the campaign, on hand to talk about the regional cardiac care program.

Ainslies named Ainslies recognized with Lobraico Award
as recipients of
Lobraico Award

Once the day's golf awards were complete, at Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's 22nd Annual Golf Classic, Aug. 2, the Foundation presented the 2012 Peter Lobraico Award to Janet and Paul Ainslie in recognition of their tremendous amount of work and support for the Buy a Bed Campaign.

On behalf of the Foundation, congratulations to the Ainslies and thank you for your great dedication and ongoing support.

Tribute gifts

We really appreciate the generosity of donors who give through Tribute & Memorial donations. Here's a recent note that accompanied a donation made in tribute:

"Please find enclosed a donation to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation (Centenary) in honour of Pam Liddiard, who recently retired as a registered nurse in your psychiatric program.

Pam cared for me for many years while I received treatment as an outpatient. She was always very nice to me, and helped put me at ease.
- Lillian"
