Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign

Heart of it All
Greetings!

It has been a busy few weeks for the Foundation and we are happy to share the latest news with you in this edition of Community Giving.

We've enjoyed music in the Rouge Valley Centenary hospital lobby, new art displayed at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital and another year of fantastic support from McHappy Day, through our friends at McDonald's, just to name a few of the news items we're proud to share with you.

Of note, we are looking forward to next week's big Yard & Bake Sale at RVAP where the Auxiliary have been working hard to make what is certain to be a successful fundraiser.

Thank you for reading and for your ongoing support,

Chad Hanna

Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre New wheelchairs
thanks to special
donation

The Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Scarborough has made a generous donation of $5,540 to Rouge Valley Centenary hospital to purchase 20 new wheelchairs.

Centre President Mohana Thirukesan writes that the donation is "an expression of love and gratitude to our Beloved Sri Sathya Sai Baba".

The goal of the project, called 'Love on Wheels', was for the centre's members to donate wheelchairs to hospitals serving the Scarborough community.

New art goes New Art display
on display in
the halls of RVAP

The halls of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital are brighter and bolder once again, thanks to some friends in the local arts scene.

The community artists' paintings on display at RVAP continue to bring a smile and positive comments from patients, visitors and staff on a regular basis. The latest display of new paintings was unveiled on April 25 and we encourage you to visit to have a look for yourself.

Be fast, be creative, just be there!

There is still a couple of weeks left until the Buy a Bed Campaign Bed Race at Scarborough Town Centre, May 25, and that is plenty of time to get a team together to join the race and collect pledges.

Teams can raise the funds quickly, safely and easily by asking supporters to pledge and donate through online fundraising. Visit www.buyabed.ca to find a link to the fundraising site where teams are registered and can be found in the pull down menu.

Race winners and the team with the most creative and fun costumes, as chosen by our judges, also win prizes.
Everybody is Serving at McDonald's
McHappy!

A number of McDonald's restaurants in Scarborough celebrated McHappy Day this year by supporting the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's Buy a Bed campaign.

Held May 2, McHappy Day, is an opportunity for McDonald's customers to make donations local children's charities. In six Scarborough-area restaurants, partial proceeds were earmarked for the Buy a Bed campaign to purchase new hospital beds for Rouge Valley Centenary. Thank you to local McDonald's owners: Terri Toms and Dale and Sandi Bartlett.

Notes for NursesSarah and Kyra perform

The Rouge Valley Centenary hospital was treated to top talent performing pop music hits for patients, visitors and staff this week.

Sarah and Kyra Gerber, on vocals and guitar respectively, performed 'Notes for Nurses' in the RVC lobby on Tuesday, May 8 as part of Nurses Week 2012. They were also collecting donations for the Buy A Bed campaign.

Staff and patients alike enjoyed the entertainment. See pictures from the event here . To see a short clip of their amazing sound, visit the RVHSF YouTube Channel.

Auxiliary Yard & Bake Sale

The Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital are holding a Yard & Bake Sale on Thursday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come out and support our dedicated volunteers and find a hidden treasure or enjoy some amazing baked treats.

The sale is in the RVAP West Courtyard, or in case of bad weather, will move inside to the West Wing. All merchandise is in working order. And don't haggle too hard on that price, because the proceeds from the sale support the Auxiliary's generous donations to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, to fund new equipment purchases for the hospital.
A penny saved is a penny donated

Now that the Canadian penny is being phased out, it's time to find a good use for all those pennies you have in jars at home. Our great volunteers at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital are collecting pennies to support all of their fundraising activities. You are encouraged to bring your penny collections to either hospital and drop them off at the volunteer information booths.
