Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign

Heart of it All
Greetings!

Have you thanked a volunteer lately? If not, there's no better time than the present, since this is National Volunteer Week.

If you haven't given it any thought recently, take a moment to consider all of the important contributions volunteers make to society. Here at Rouge Valley Health System, we rely greatly on hundreds of dedicated men, women and students in the Volunteer Services at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital and the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

Both of these groups can be found in many of the hospitals different departments every day, providing support to staff and patients. And collectively, they raise funds to support the purchase of important medical equipment through donations to the Foundation.

I cannot stress enough the important work that volunteers do to help make a visit to their community hospital the best patient experience possible. Not to mention the many volunteers who support the Foundation specifically, at our own fundraising events, community events, committees and here at our offices in a number of different activities. We are so fortunate to have their wonderful support.

When you see a volunteer in the days ahead, I encourage you to take a moment to let them know you appreciate their efforts.

Sincerely,

Chad Hanna

Thanks to the generous support of staff, physicians and volunteers, for the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's monthly Cash Cow Lottery, it will now be easier than ever for family and friends, as well as hospital staff, to track patients as they move through the surgical process at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP) and Rouge Valley Centenary hospital (RVC).

Launched this week, the system provides information about, and the location of, surgical patients on large television screens available in a number of different hospital departments and public areas. Using colour coding and other visual aids, a quick glance allows a viewer to see how a patient is progressing from admission, to surgery, to recovery.

Bed Races at Scarborough Town Centre expected to push campaign
to the finish line and goal of 100 beds

With just over a month to go to the big Bed Race at Scarborough Town Centre, May 25, the Buy a Bed Campaign is excited that the event is very likely going to push the bed total past their goal of 100 beds for Rouge Valley Centenary hospital.

Helping make that possible are Bed Race sponsors like Bell and CTV, who have been joined by returning sponsors Scarboro Golf & Country Club, Toronto Community News and East-Court Ford Lincoln. Mittman Carriers will also be on hand again, donating their services to deliver the beds to the race.

There is still room for more sponsors, if your company is interested in helping make the Bed Race a great success. Also, if your company or community group is interested in having a great time, consider forming a bed race team and fundraising to support the campaign.

Volunteers celebrated
for generous dedication
and ongoing support

During National Volunteer Week, we want to shout the praises of our amazing volunteers.

We can't say enough about this group of people, who bring their precious time and talents to the Rouge Valley Health System and the Foundation.

To see the volunteers at work, check out a short video posted to the RVHS YouTube channel that shows some of the important support they provide.

A penny for your thoughts

Now that the Canadian penny is being phased out of Canada's currency, with the Federal Government announcing this year that the penny is too costly to produce, it's time to find a good use for all those pennies you have in jars at home.

If we could make a suggestion, why not donate them to our great volunteers at either Rouge Valley Centenary hospital or Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital? You are encouraged to bring your penny collections to either hospital and drop them off at the volunteer information booths.

Keeping our communities clean

Sunday, April 22 marks the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day. This year Rouge Valley Health System will commemorate this worldwide celebration on Friday, April 20 with a cleanup day at both Rouge Valley Centenary hospital and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

All staff members were invited to get involved and do their part to keep our communities clean. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will be helping to beautify Rouge Valley by picking up litter and garbage on the hospital properties.
