Heart of it All
Greetings!

The Red, White & Rouge All Over Gala is now complete, but we are still enjoying great buzz from everyone involved.

Read the post-event news below and I encourage you to check out the links to the hundreds of images we posted online from the wonderful event.

I would like to personally thank all of our guests, sponsors and volunteers who took part. We are very fortunate to have your support and we hope you know you are the reason the gala is such a success every year.

Sincerely,

Chad Hanna

The Rouge Valley Centenary hospital volunteers are the lead donor for a portable echocardiogram machine dedicated to the Centenary site.

In partnership with the Foundation, they will provide the majority of the funding for this portable echo and they presented a $40,000 gift to the Heart of It All campaign March 23, received by campaign co-chair Dr. Ram Vijayaraghavan.

In addition to this wonderful gift, the Foundation also received (from the Volunteers) a gift of $20,000 to fund three electric patient beds for RVC's Children's program, which includes funds previously donated.

Rouge All Over
a patriotic party

The Red, White & Rouge All Over Gala, March 30, was a mix of Canadiana, supporting your community hospitals and ultimately, a lot of fun!

When it comes to comfort and that warm feeling of home, we as a country are proud to be Canadians. That was the basis for Red, White & Rouge All Over, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's annual gala, held at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Ajax.

Along with amazing silent and live auctions, guests enjoyed a high-energy performance from Canadian musician, Michael Kaeshammer, pictures with the Grey Cup and the popular Muskoka After-Party. To see all of the pictures from the Gala, click here. And also be sure to visit hadaball.com.

Pictured: True Canadian 'hosers' Bob and Doug McKenzie, AKA Terry Johnston and Don Terry made the live auction a fun sale.

Buy a Bed championsBuy a Bed champions
honoured by
hospital board

Cheryl Owen and Dianne Tomarachio were recognized by the Rouge Valley Health System Board of Directors on March 27, 2012, for being champions for the Foundation's Buy A Bed campaign.

Cheryl, who is the Project Lead for Required Organizational Practices across RVHS and Dianne, who is the Manager of Quality Improvement, have very busy jobs as it is, but have shown excellent leadership and energy as well as have led by example in their passion to raise funds.  They were the first staff members to sign up to make donations to the campaign through payroll deductions, and then started challenging other staff members to 'get into bed together' and support the campaign with them.

RBC sponsored workshops for parents prove popular

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation is proud to help facilitate a series of free workshops sponsored by RBC, the most recent regarding the topic of 'Understanding the World of the Anxious Child and Adolescent'.

The workshops are for parents and teachers and are presented by knowledgeable staff from the Shoniker Clinic, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Clinic. The March 24 session was at Rouge Valley Centenary, with a full audience attending to hear from Jim Hall.

The next workshop is planned to return to Ajax, by popular demand. It is expected to be held in the spring, with details to be announced soon. Email [email protected] for more information about the workshops or to inquire about registering to attend.

New beds to help reduce emergency wait times

A new unit that recently opened at Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) is helping to improve emergency wait times for patients in Durham Region.

The 10-bed unit, which is located at the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering (RVAP) hospital campus, was made possible by $1.3 million in funding from the Central East Local Health Integration Network (Central East LHIN). It will focus on patients who are admitted through the emergency department (ED), and have an anticipated length of stay of 72 hours or less. The medical short-stay unit began taking patients in January.
