Heart of it All
Greetings!

As the calendar turns to February, I am very excited for the return of our popular To Rouge with Love events. Look for more details in the Event News section of this email.

The year ahead promises to be a busy and exciting one for the RVHS Foundation and I encourage you to make use of the Fundraising Events listings at the end of each e-news update. Along with events organized by the Foundation and our generous supporters each month, look for details on special offers available to you as well.

Finally, I'd like to encourage you to read the latest version of our printed newsletter, Community Giving, that we publish every few months. The Winter 2012 edition features a number of great stories of our activities in the past several weeks and I think you will find it to be an engaging read.

It can be found at either of our Foundation offices at the Rouge Valley Centenary hospital or Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital sites. Or, for the tech-savvy readers, you can download a PDF file from our website by clicking here.

Thank you for your continued support,

Chad Hanna

for Heart of it All

The Ajax Polar Bears visited the Ajax and Pickering hospital's Cardiac Diagnostics Dept. on Jan. 20 to deliver the funds from their 2012 swim in Lake Ontario.

They had a look at the department and got to see one of the older echocardiogram machines before making their presentation, of $3,021 donated to the Heart of it All campaign.

Video games for video games
kids in hospital

The National Post's Financial Post Tech Desk editor, Matt Hartley, collected new and used video games for children's hospitals and paediatric centres across Canada, in his annual Hartley's Video Game drive for Kids before Christmas.

The Rouge Valley Health System hospitals were among the lucky recipients of games for kids.

Special plans underwayKatie Yigitoz
for Foundation's gala

Katie Yigitoz is the newest member of the team involved in putting together the RVHSF's annual Gala and she says this year's event will celebrate being Canadian in a big way!

Katie has written a blog for the Foundation to tell us a little bit of what to expect this year and what she has been doing as part of preparations for Red, White & Rouge All Over, on March 30, 2012.

Visit our blog, Foundation Chat, to read what she has to say.
To Rouge with Love returns

During the month of February, matters of the heart will be at the forefront of everyone's mind here at Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. That's because To Rouge With Love is back!
To Rouge with Love
The annual event features a series of cocktail events hosted by supporters of the Foundation, to raise awareness of RVHS Cardiac Care program and the Heart of it All campaign.

To Rouge with Love is held throughout the month of February and each event host invites a Rouge Valley Health System Cardiologist and Cardiac staff member to speak about our excellent Regional Cardiac program.

To find out more about these special events or how to host your own event, call the Foundation office at 416-281-7342, or 905-686-2320, ext. 1501 or email rsagar-lal@rougevalley.ca

Pediatric oncology clinic provides life-saving care close to home

In February 2010, Carrie Rands-Flanagan and her husband Bill, parents of two young daughters, received the news that would change their lives forever. Their youngest daughter, three-year-old Abby, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Almost immediately after her diagnosis, Abby began the first four months of her two-year treatment plan at the Hospital for Sick Children. While Abby was receiving the best care possible, each appointment meant a long commute from Whitby to Toronto. The family was relieved to learn that Abby could now receive some of her treatments, most blood work, and check-ups at Rouge Valley Health System's Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario satellite clinic at its Rouge Valley Centenary hospital campus in east Toronto, much closer to the family's home.
