Heart of it All
Greetings!

Now that December has arrived, please allow me to share with you our excitement here at the Foundation for what we think is "the most wonderful time of the year!"

The holiday season is a special time for us because it is an opportunity to connect our wonderful donors with the dedicated staff of the Rouge Valley Health System who truly appreciate your generous support. Through our Gift of Health campaign, at both Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering and Rouge Valley Centenary, we display your thoughtful and heartfelt messages so that our patients, staff and visitors know that they are not alone, and that the community cares about them.

If you have already donated to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation this holiday season, thank you! If you haven't had the chance yet, please know that your donations help ensure that the hospitals of Rouge Valley Health System remain a strong and vibrant part of their communities. Your gift makes a difference to patients and their families.

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation teamed up with the Town of Ajax, The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade and the Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation to present a free information session on Nov. 23, regarding the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA), previously Bill 65.

Held at the McLean Community Centre in Ajax, 125 representatives from not-for-profit and charity organizations around Durham Region and east Toronto took advantage of this free opportunity to get on top of this critical piece of legislation.

Mayor's GalaMayor Dave Ryan at Mayor's Gala
reaches new
heights of
success

This year's City of Pickering Mayor's Gala was a milestone event for the Image is Everything campaign, with the Gala set to reach its tremendous pledge of $250,000 to help bring an MRI to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.
This annual black-tie affair was again held at the Pickering Recreation Centre, which was transformed by the theme for 2011, "Reflections in Time". With Pickering celebrating its bicentennial all of this year, gala organizers took this special opportunity to incorporate Pickering's proud past into this year's event.

Teddy bears have Heather delivers bears to the lab
a new home

Heather Montague of the RVHS Foundation recently dropped by the Lab at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering to drop off newly donated stuffed animals.

The lab gives the toys to children when they are upset during a visit to provide blood samples. These bears were donated by the Rotary Club of Ajax, but many of our departments that serve the medical needs of children need stuffed toys too, such as the emergency ward, fracture clinic and more. If you are holding a toy drive this season, please consider donating to the Foundation so we can continue to help ease a child's visit to the hospital. To learn more, contact Heather at 905-683-2320, ext. 1501 or at hmontague@rougevalley.ca.

"Blessings of the Season to the Staff and Volunteers at this wonderful Hospital."

"Thank you for caring for me and my extended family."

"God bless all the wonderful people at Centenary "Best Care in the World""

Health MinisterDeb Matthews at RVAP
visits RVAP's
new MRI

Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews, recently visited Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering to see the new MRI suite.

The MRI was installed in September following much fanfare and attention as part of the RVHS Foundation's successful and ongoing Image is Everything campaign. The minister was impressed by staff and physicians who toured her through the area. Special thanks to tour guides Dr. Romas Stas, associate chief of staff and Foundation board member (pictured above with Minister Matthews); Dr. Steve Gazzola, a new radiologist to RVHS, and the diagnostic imaging team lead by program director Jeff Hohenkerk.
