Heart of it All
Greetings!

We're a week removed from our fabulous Casino Rouge event held October 14, and still people are  buzzing about what a wonderful time they had at the Tiff Bell Lightbox that evening.

Chad Hanna

There was so much excitement around the poker tables as players competed to be our inaugural Texas Hold 'em champ, which was matched by the fun being had at the roulette and blackjack tables. Add to that the beautiful view, looking out at the CN Tower, along with the relaxing lounge and amazing jazz music on the terrace. It all added to the ambiance of the venue to make it a truly special event.

Read more below and be sure to follow the links to the full story on the Foundation Chat blog page and to all of the great pictures on our Flickr photo gallery.

Whether you were there, or wish you had been, rest assured we are already planning to bring the event back. And when we have details ready, you will be the first to know.

Thank you to all of the participants, sponsors and volunteers for making this an amazing night. Casino Rouge was held to support the Heart of it All campaign and we are another big step closer to bringing much-needed new echocardiogram machines to both Rouge Valley hospital sites.

Best regards,

Chad Hanna, President & CEO, RVHS Foundation

RVHS celebrates first annual National Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day

A new initiative that is helping to raise awareness about breast reconstruction after a lumpectomy or mastectomy, was celebrated at both Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) hospital campuses this week.

National Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day, celebrated for the first time on Oct. 19, is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access for women who may wish to consider breast reconstruction after tumor removal for breast cancer. Lumpectomies or mastectomies are procedures in which the breast is partially or fully removed to treat breast cancer. Read more about this story at www.rougevalley.ca .

A bittersweet farewell

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that our friend and colleague, Carole Chabot, is leaving the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation.

Carole Chabot
Carole Chabot
Although we are sad to lose Carole's experience, knowledge and overall expertise in her field, everyone with the Foundation is excited for her as she embarks on a new direction in her career, in taking a position with the Michalle Jean Foundation. Her last day with the Foundation will be Monday, October 24.

In her time with the Foundation, Carole has been an example to all who have had the pleasure to work with her, whether it be her peers, our volunteers or our donors. Her creativity and tremendous work ethic are contagious and set the bar high for everyone in any activity in which she was involved, helping us to achieve excellence. We will miss her creativity, attention to detail and her ability to thrive on any challenge.

She wishes the staff and Board all the very best in the realization of the Foundation's future fundraising and development goals. We ask you to join us in returning those heartfelt wishes to Carole and wish her the very best both in her new position and personally in the years ahead.

Artists
New art display at RVAP

Another set of paintings has been added to the halls of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP).

Accessible from both the east and west entrances of the hospital, eight new paintings by local amateur artists have been hung for the enjoyment of visitors and patients. The paintings hang on walls across the hall from the hospital's Cardiac Diagnostics Department, on the main floor.

Two of the paintings are by members of RVAP's own Auxiliary, and one by a staff member, while the rest come from members of the community. Read the whole story at our blog, Foundation Chat.
