Heart of it All
Greetings!

With the calendar just about ready to turn over to October, the Foundation and all of the volunteers associated with Casino Rouge are feeling the excitement of what promises to be a fabulous event on Oct. 14.

Carole Chabot
Carole Chabot

This will be an elegant evening of fine cuisine, high excitement and James Bond intrigue at the gaming tables, as we prepare to crown our first-ever poker champion.

There will also be a silent auction, wine tasting, a Jazz Lounge, and exclusive cinema, all of this happening against the beautiful backdrop of one of Toronto's hottest locations, the Tiff Bell Lightbox.

If you haven't arranged for your tickets yet, I encourage you to do so right away. This is an event you will not want to miss.

Best regards,

Thoracic Assessment Clinic opens
at Rouge Valley Centenary

A new Thoracic Assessment Clinic, which recently opened at Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS), is helping to get cancer patients the treatment they need closer to home.

The Central East Regional Thoracic Diagnostic Assessment Unit (DAU), in Rouge Valley Centenary's Chemotherapy Clinic, is led by Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Shannon Trainor. Patients requiring diagnosis or treatment for lung, stomach, and esophageal cancers can all be seen here. Patients potentially requiring surgery for acid reflux or patients with benign lung diseases can also be referred here. Read more at www.rougevalley.ca.

Who's your caddyWho's Your Caddy? an above par success!

The 2nd Annual Who's Your Caddy? ladies-only golf tournament featured hijinks and fun on the golf course on Sept. 13. Presented by Veridian Corporation, all proceeds from the tournament supported the Image is Everything campaign, which has brought the first MRI to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

The tournament raised a tremendous $25,000, with many of the teams topping last year's amazing costumes and silliness. Each ladies' foursome was paired with a male caddy for advice and assistance and they got into the fun, delivering special gifts and, in many cases, wearing costumes to complement the ladies' team themes.

Scarborough Fair comes through again

The fine folks at Scarborough Fair Condominiums once again barbecued for a good cause, to raise money for the Buy a Bed Campaign. And thanks to raising $3,000 at this year's event, held Aug. 20, their two year total has reached $5,000, for Rouge Valley Centenary!

Lucy Perri, President of Scarborough Fair Condominiums, organized the fun event and the International Food Bazaar was a big hit with everyone who attended. To read more about the event, visit our blog, Foundation Chat

Six-year-old Miliana McCartney
knows Image
is Everything

Miliana McCartney knows how to quench a thirst!

The six-year-old Pickering girl wanted to have a lemonade stand, so she decided to make it special by dedicating it to her community hospital. She chose to donate all the money she raised, plus the pennies from her piggybank, to the Fracture Clinic at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. Last year, she had a bright-pink arm cast, and she wanted to give something back to them.

Way to go Miliana, you are an inspiration to all young charity supporters!

News coverage attracts another generous donor

Helen Witt
When Helen Witt read about the arrival of the MRI machine at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, she instantly knew she wanted to support the Image is Everything campaign.

The Pickering woman said she read about the big MRI event on Aug. 29 in the Toronto Star and she decided that the $425 in coins she had collected over time would be put to good use helping her community hospital. Read more at our blog, Foundation Chat.

Bill Manners was a strong supporter
of the Image is Everything campaign

It is with sadness that we share the news that Bill Manners, a volunteer and donor of the RVHS Foundation has passed away. Bill was an Ajax resident Bill Mannerswho, when he learned of fundraising for an MRI, decided to get involved and visit the Foundation to share his story. It started in February of 2009 for Bill, when he was diagnosed with multiple malignant brain tumours. He required regular MRI scans and would travel to downtown Toronto for his MRIs (but he would have liked having care closer to home at his community hospital).

For two years, Bill organized a charity golf tournament that raised money in support of the Brain Tumour Foundation. Bill arranged for half of the 2010 proceeds to be directed to the Image is Everything campaign. That donation came to nearly $10,000!

Bill puts a face to the reason why MRI was needed at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, and what the Image is Everything campaign stands for. With his typical kindness, Bill thought of others in his passing by directing any memorial donations to be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation or the Image is Everything campaign.
