Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign

Heart of it All
Greetings!

For me, this campaign has been an opportunity to set an example for my son Spencer about what it means to be part of a community, and to show him how communities are created. They are built on the social infrastructure of the people who live here, and what each of us contributes to enrich the lives of one another. I've been a part of Durham for more than 20 years and this hospital, and the people they care for, are very important to me.

I have been very lucky to work with some great individuals who share my enthusiasm for ensuring that we have world-class health care close to home. They are: Ron Halliday, Chad Hanna, Dr. Mark Prieditis, Sherry Robinson, Mayor Dave Ryan, John G. Smith, Dr. Romas Stas, and Jim Ward. But of course, we couldn't have arrived at the conclusion of the Image is Everything campaign without the community's unwavering support of what we were doing.

We have been inspired by the dedication of the many volunteers who have encouraged donors such as yourselves throughout Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa. You want to build a stronger community, where giving is accepted as everyone's responsibility. Whether the gifts were six figures, like the Town of Ajax, City of Pickering, the Rouge Valley radiologists, the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, Ontario Power Generation, the City of Pickering Mayor's Gala, Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facilities or Tribute Communities and Runnymede Development, or were made by individuals like Dr. Romas Stas, Norm & Lynda Picov, and Ron & Carol Halliday, or were the contents of a little girl's piggy bank, every single donor has made a difference.

Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign,

Lucy Stocco, Chair,

MRI receives grand welcome from community, upon arrival to hospital

About 200 people waved Image is Everything campaign colours and signs and cheered the arrival of the MRI machine at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital Monday morning.wait is over signs

Volunteers and hospital staff members, serving as "human-mile markers", waved and cheered at different spots along Hwy. 2 and Harwood Avenue as the MRI made its way to the hospital, led by a Durham Regional Police escort. At the hospital, the large crowd cheered and held a paper chain finish line for the truck to drive through.

Local radio station CKDO Oldies, with show host Terry Johnston and the morning crew, were on site broadcasting live from the hospital. The broadcast started at 5:30 a.m. and throughout the morning updated their audience on the travels of the MRI and interviewed key people in the campaign, along with doctors and staff of the hospital's Digital Imaging Department. Sept. 8 was an amazing day for the Image is Everything campaign as many donors and volunteers visited the hospital for a special reception and tours of the new MR suite at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

The campaign cabinet for Image is Everything was able to thank all the fantastic and generous donors who 'put themselves in the picture' and helped bring an MRI to RVAP. Staff in the MR suite were on hand to describe the different areas of the department and explain all of the benefits of the space. They also took the opportunity to show off the MRI itself. It was a rare glimpse of the machine as once it is in operation and the magnet is activated, the public will no longer be able to access the space without extensive medical clearance.

The new MRI will be open for business starting the week of September 26.
