Greetings!
Please allow me this opportunity to say 'thank you' to all of the donors, volunteers and supporters of the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. I hope you find this edition of the Community Giving e-newsletter an interesting read.
Off the top, I would like to take a moment to tell you about just one special event that the Foundation is planning next month, an occasion that all of us here are very excited about.
On June 23, Rouge Valley Centenary will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the grand-opening of the Margaret Birch Wing. We will also be celebrating the 90th Birthday of Mrs. Birch herself, with a birthday party and strawberry social at the hospital..
As a way of marking these two milestones we will be promoting the RVC Buy a Bed campaign, which will furnish new beds throughout the hospital, including the Margaret Birch Wing.
Look for more details about the celebration in the weeks to come. We hope you can join us.
Best regards,
Carole Chabot, CFRE, Vice President, Development Rouge Valley Health System Foundation

Fast-track cardiac program celebrates successful first year
Rouge Valley celebrated the one-year anniversary of its fast-track emergency cardiac care program - known as Code STEMI - on April 28.
The event featured a personal account by Code STEMI patient Gary McCormack, a 59-year-old Bowmanville resident, who spoke about his experience while thanking Rouge Valley, partnering doctors and staff members for saving his life last December.
During the event, a demonstration of the Code STEMI process was also performed to show all of the vital teamwork that is involved in providing heart attack patients with the cardiac treatment they need, as quickly as possible.

Donors and sponsors help staff add to skills through education, training
Congratulations to all of our nursing bursary winners who were recognized during last week's Celebration of Learning event on May 11. The RVHS Foundation would like to express its appreciation to Singer, Kwinter LLP for their generosity in establishing the Emergency Nursing Education Fund. Their gift has enabled Emergency department nursing staff at both hospital campuses to participate in seminars, courses, and workshops as a result. In 2010 they made it possible for 61 nurses to attend courses and seminars to advance their skills. The following Nursing Bursaries were awarded at the event as well in the name of: Rouge Valley Health System, Joyce Pearson, Joseline Sikorski, Yau-Fong Cheung Memorial, Guy Birch Memorial, Gelda Pymar, Dr. David Henderson Memorial And The Diane Elizabeth Edmondson Memorial. Volunteers at McDonald's restaurants collected donations at the 18th Annual McHappy Day. McHappy Day supports Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, and in Scarborough a portion of the funds were donated to the RVC Buy a Bed campaign.

Everybody is McHappy!
On May 11, McDonald's restaurants in Scarborough joined more than 1,400 restaurants across the country to celebrate the 18th McHappy Day. Rouge Valley Health System Foundation's Buy a Bed campaign is a beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds. Special thanks to McDonald's owner/operators Dale Bartlett and Terri Toms for their ongoing, generous support. Young support
for Buy a Bed campaign
Young Anjuli Mathur, 6, made a surprise visit to the RVHS Foundation office at Centenary recently to donate the proceeds of her own personal fundraiser.
She donated money collected at her lemonade stand and decided to put it towards the Foundation's Buy a Bed campaign. Her mother, Swasti, is a member of staff at the hospital.
We look forward to hearing more from Anjuli in the future. She is already planning her next lemonade stand fundraiser, she told us.

St. Andrew's is in the picture
Members of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church 3Cs Monday morning group gathered on April 18 as usual, but they had a special presentation to make at this meeting to the Image is Everything campaign, represented by Heather Montague.
The group, along with the support of their pastor, presented a gift of $1,000 to the campaign. The gift was a result of following member Marina Hromadka's suggestion. Marina personally donated $500 to the campaign, to bring an MRI to Ajax and Pickering hospital.

May 27 Bed Race rolling along nicely
There will be some fun surprises at the Scarborough Town Centre Corporate Bed Races on Friday, May 27. One example comes from East-Court Ford Lincoln, who are the Pit Crew Sponsor for the event. Just wait until you see their Pace Car up close - a 'tricked' out race bed they built with tires that turn, and with actual exhaust 'smoke' coming out of the tail pipes! If your company would like to be a sponsor or enter a team into this fun event, contact Katherine Craine at 416-281-7119 or email kcraine@rougevalley.ca. Find out more about the campaign and this event at www.buyabed.ca.

Celebrating the Auxiliary to RVAP
On May 3, Rouge Valley Health System Foundation celebrated the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering for their contribution to the the Women's Imaging Centre at the hospital. The Auxiliary's $1 million gift to the department helped make the centre possible, and volunteers were thrilled to see their contribution turned into reality.
