Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign
Greetings!

The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation has enjoyed a great deal of love during February.

The annual To Rouge with Love events have been popular and successful. Our amazing cardiology department guests have been well received by generous hosts and event patrons over the past two weeks.

Another special occasion this month was the grand opening of the long awaited redevelopment at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering. The love for the community hospital was expressed in all of the many speeches from dignitaries and hospital officials in front of a large audience on hand to mark the occasion.

Read more about these special events in this edition of your Community Giving eNewsletter and as always, thank you to all of our community partners and donors for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Dave Stell

Community celebrates RVAP redevelopment Grand Opening

The culmination of years of planning, fundraising and construction turned into a wonderful event celebrating the opening of the RVAP Redevelopment, Feb. 17.

Held in the new Harwood Bistro, the event featured the Hon. Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care as guest keynote speaker along with local political leaders. The event also was attended by donors, community leaders, staff from both hospital campuses; auxiliary volunteers; physicians; RVHS hospital and Foundation board members; and patients and their families.

Of special note, Minister Matthews announced an additional $2.9M in funding for RVAP! Details on this are to follow.

Guest speakers representing the RVHS Foundation were Board Chair Jim Ward and Vital Links campaign Chair Gord Simmonds. Many of the speakers referenced the need for an MRI for Ajax and said that is where their efforts are now being focused in order to continue the work wo make Ajax among the best health care sites in the province.

Wheelchairs make life easier for Rouge Valley Centenary patients

Rotary wheelchair

One of the chairs now in use in the emergency department.

Last year, the Rotary Club of North Scarborough began the process of donating funds to purchase a wheelchair for the emergency department of Rouge Valley Centenary. Once the process was complete, the donation evolved and ended up being used to purchase several wheelchairs that were recently added to the department.

The chairs are marked by plaques inscribed: "A gift from Rotary Club of North Scarborough".

Gerd Wengler, a Rotary representative who spearheaded the project to make the donation, explained it

came as a result of a senior member of the club having come to the hospital and no chair being available at the time. Mr. Wengler contacted the Foundation and the wheels were set in motion.

"That's fantastic," Mr. Wengler said, when informed the donation had led to several chairs, rather than just one. "We like to give to specific efforts, so buying chairs is wonderful."

The Foundation expresses sincere appreciation to the Rotary Club for its support through the donation.

After attending the Redevelopment Grand Opening of RVAP on Feb. 17, and being recognized for their contributions to the Vital Links Campaign, Wayne and Sandra Cassidy were given a tour of the Diagnostic Imaging Department where their donation is recognized with a plaque showing their sponsorship of an ultrasound room.

Department Director Jeff Hohenkerk welcomed the couple and described the uses of the room to the donors.

To Rouge with Love a success once again for hosts and guests

The RVHS Foundation's To Rouge with Love events are nearly complete, with the final events taking place in the coming weeks.

To Rouge with Love is a series of cocktail parties and events to raise awareness of RVHS Cardiac Care programs and funds to help purchase essential Echocardiogram machines. Held throughout the month of February, each event hosts a special guest from Rouge Valley Health System to explain why the equipment is so important and needed, as well as how it is used.

"Rouge Valley's Cardiac Care program, led by Dr. Joe Ricci and his talented team of Cardiologists, are doing some incredible things," says Jim Ward, RVHS Foundation Board Chair. "This group has embraced the concept of providing excellent cardiac care across both our Ajax and Pickering and Scarborough Centenary sites."

Foundation, financial experts team up for tax prep fundraiser

Building on the success of last year's first charity tax preparation event, Argosy Securities has generously stepped forward again to prepare personal income taxes for the people of our communities, in return for a donation to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation.

Argosy staff

The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Argosy Securities.

The program returned during the first week of February and continues until the personal income tax deadline of April 30. Argosy Securities Ajax Branch is waiving tax preparation fees for anyone who contributes a minimum of $20 to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation.  All funds received will support the Image is Everything campaign, bringing the first MRI to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

"Argosy Securities is excited about all the ways we're generating support for Rouge Valley patients and their families," said Tutul Kundu, Branch Manager.

Although the office is located in Ajax, Argosy encourages residents from surrounding communities to take advantage of this offer to ensure that this fundraising initiative is a success. Those interested should call Argosy at 905-426-8268, ext 3003.
