Greetings!
The rain hits the windshield with a jarring smack and I can feel the energy course through the accelerator into my foot. White-knuckling the steering wheel, I angrily peer through the grey mist on the 401, narrowly avoiding the aggressive line of merging drivers.
It's funny how in a week, we can move from positive goodwill to righteous indignation. Thanksgiving is already in the clearance bins while Christmas sales hypnotize us with twinkling lights. When it comes to giving thanks and goodwill, does it only last the long weekend?
Fortunately we have so many volunteers, donors, staff and patients who embody selfless giving all year round. Thank you for showing us what is possible with a strong network of support.

A bright shining gift to RVC
On June 15, the Starlight Children's Foundation, through its sponsor Enterprise Holdings, presented the paediatric floor at Rouge Valley Centenary with a Wii Fun Centre. This mobile entertainment centre provides patients and their families with access to a Wii gaming system, a multitude of Wii games, and many DVDs during their stay at the hospital.
Visit our Photo Gallery for more photos of the presentation ceremony.

D O N O R S T O R I E S | Asphalt Junkies rev up for Rouge
You might think you're dreaming of Daytona, but this flashback is courtesy of Asphalt Junkies' Bringing Daytona Beach to the GTA. On July 18th, Heydenshore Pavilion became a northern stage for bike enthusiasts and community members who came out to enjoy their love for sport bikes and the sun-fuelled entertainment.
Held in support of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, the event had everything from bike washes and displays to barbeques, fashion show and even a bathing suit competition.
By the end of the day, participants had generously raised $620 for the hospital. Thanks to all who came to the event and remember its warmth. Only one question remains: can you bring the beach back to the GTA in October?

Local lawyers make a case for support
The biggest surprise of Who's Your Caddy?, besides the mustachioed cowboys, came from Whitby lawyer Michael Head. During dinner, Michael presented a cheque for $25,000 as a donation to the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital Image is Everything campaign. All of the guests stood for an emotional applause to give recognition for the generous contribution.

RBC Children's Mental Health Project
The RBC Children's Mental Heath Project is a multi-year philanthropic commitment to support community-based and hospital programs that reduce stigma, provide early intervention and increase public awareness about children's mental health issues.
The RBC Children's Mental Health Project is a key priority project for the bank and this year, in the Scarborough/Ajax/Pickering region, RBC is partnering with Rouge Valley Health System's Shoniker Clinic.
The Shoniker Clinic offers outpatient mental health treatment for children up to the age of 18 living in the Scarborough and west Durham communities.
The kite is the symbol for this campaign to help kids soar and local RBC branches will be selling kite pins in support of the vital work undertaken at the Shoniker.
Please visit the RBC website for more information on how you can become involved in the project. |

Raising a glass to our celebrity bartenders
After a long day at work, who would you want to have pour you a drink? How about City of Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan? Or how about Dale Russell, former member of The Guess Who?
You now have the opportunity to experience both. Due to the overwhelming success of the summer's celebrity bartending events, our fantastic MRI volunteers have decided to continue serving up special attractions at some of Durham region's finest watering holes.
We have a long list of people to thank for the success of these events -- our celebrity bartenders, the venues and all the volunteers and guests who come each week to support the campaign.
See the complete list of celebrity bartending cocktail hour below in the Fundraising Events.
