Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign
Greetings!

Social networking changes lives!

There is a new generation of caring, compassionate community members who are enhancing how we fundraise. So much of life is spent online these days, and to keep up with the times, we have developed two campaign-specific websites that can help you help your hospital.

You can now easily create a secure Personalized Fundraising Web Page for yourself, your group, your school or your business, for an event or a challenge, and collect online donations. Each donor to your fundraising page will receive his or her own tax receipt automatically by email!

Find out more by clicking on this RVAP MRI campaign link or this RVC Buy a Bed campaign link, or reply to this eNews and I'll help you through it.

RVAP Redevelopment Update
The redevelopment of the community hospital continues to progress during the third and final year of its major construction project. Here's what's new at Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering hospital:

Temporary road access changes
The connecting road from the Harwood Avenue entrance at Emperor Street to the road that goes around to the west side of the hospital will be temporarily closed. In order to access the west entrance and the visitor parking lot, the public should either enter the hospital from Centennial Road or use the new access road from Harwood Avenue southbound. This re-routing is being done to allow for paving and new curbs to be installed as part of the major redevelopment. These changes will remain in effect until roughly the second week of August. >MAP

RVAP Lab opens
As part of RVAP's Redevelopment project, the hospital campus' new lab is now open. The space features a waiting room for clinic patients; one phlebotomy room and office space for clerks; a specimen processing room, where specimens can be dropped off; a pneumatic tube system that can transport samples between the lab and emergency department and the operating room; and the core lab. >PHOTOS
2010 APEX Award WinnerPromoting the hospital with communication excellence
RVHS public affairs and RVHS Foundation have together won a total of three 2010 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence.

The awards won by the public affairs team were in the following categories:
* One to Two Person-produced Newsletters for Echo (Akilah Dressekie and Nicholas Smith)
* Blogs, Forums & Wikis for the RVHS President's Blog (CEO Rik Ganderton)

The award won by the RVHS Foundation was in the following category:
* Blogs, Forums & Wikis for Foundation Chat (Kerry McLeish)

"Our collective thanks to the staff, physicians, volunteers and management of Rouge Valley for giving us something compelling to write about in our communications. In that regard, the awards recognize the terrific work our hospital does from the front line to senior management," comments David Brazeau, RVHS director of public affairs and community relations.

Walking with heartWalking with heart
Thanks to everyone who participated in the 13th annual Walk with Heart on May 15th, over $55,000 was raised for the Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Service at Rouge Valley Health System. The program will be using the funds to purchase a patient monitoring system, a projector and screen for the running track, a pulse oximeter and upgrades to our patient education equipment and facility, including a new laptop. Congratulations everyone who walked for heart!
Cassidy & Co. support MRI CampaignCassidy & Co. tourney supports MRI Campaign
In its over 20-year partnership with Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, Cassidy & Co. has been a familiar presence at many of the Foundation's events and a generous supporter of our campaigns. As well as being a long-time sponsor of our Mayors' Charity Golf Classic and Annual Gala, Cassidy & Co. supports our community by sponsoring the City of Pickering Mayor's Gala as well as hosting its own annual golf tournament.

On July 8th, Cassidy & Co. hosted its 23rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Because Cassidy & Co. wants our expanding community to have the best health care close to home, proceeds from this year's tournament supported our "Image is Everything" Campaign, with members of the Campaign Cabinet accepting a $25,000 cheque at the post-game dinner. Special thanks to Wayne and Sandra Cassidy, and to the numerous golfers and tournament sponsors, who are helping bring an MRI to their local community hospital.

Corporate philanthropy at workMcHappy Day donation to Buy a Bed campaign
On Tuesday, Dale Bartlett, Owner/Operator of 5 McDonald's franchises along with Terri Toms, Owner/Operator of the Kingston/ Lawrence and Morningside Walmart franchises, presented cheques to the Foundation totaling $8,739. The proceeds were raised during McHappy Day held on May 5th. Both Dale and Terri are still fundraising for our Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign, and their total funds will help purchase a number of new hospital beds.

Sherry Robinson, Chair of the MRI campaign's Community CommitteeMeet Sherry Robinson
Sherry Robinson has been a long time Durham resident and supporter of our community. After working for many years in banking, Sherry decided to create an oasis for herself and her neighbours by opening Spa Sedona in Pickering Village. Her passion for her community, as well as her energy and personal successes, made Sherry an ideal choice to Chair the Community Committee of the "Image is Everything" Campaign.

"I choose to live and work in Durham Region because it is a close-knit, supportive community," says Sherry. "And I'm excited to help in bringing an MRI to our hospital."

Under Sherry's leadership, over 20 volunteers are hard at work encouraging west Durham to support the campaign by hosting third-party events in order to help bring an MRI to their local community hospital.
