Greetings!
Two hospital campuses. Two fun-filled, very active fundraising campaigns!
Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign
It has been such a busy two weeks that I haven't had time to go through all the photos from our amazing parade and Bed Race at the Highland Creek Heritage Festival on Saturday. Look for it as our lead donor story next issue!
"Image is Everything" Campaign
As you know, we launched our fundraising campaign to bring an MRI to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering at Lincoln Avenue Public School. Rogers Durham has uploaded fantastic coverage of the event, and you can view it online right now.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who are helping behind the scenes during this wonderfully busy time at the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation -- your dedication makes a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families.

H O S P I T A L S T O R I E S | AGM celebrates progress, equipment purchases
Rouge Valley Health System's 12th Annual General Meeting of Members celebrated a year of progress in quality patient care on Tuesday, June 22nd. The meeting, which was open to the public, took place at the Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility, which generously donated the use of the facilities to the hospital. The hospital board meeting covered official AGM business and introduced the 2010-2011 RVHS Board of Directors.
This year's AGM once again featured medical equipment that the RVHS Foundation purchased during the past year, as well as a display of equipment that the hospital hopes to acquire in the next 12 months. The fair demonstrated how our donors' generosity results in better patient care.
"The Foundation's medical equipment fair gives our AGM something special that people can see and touch," said outgoing Chair Janet Ecker. "With the support of the community, the Foundation's grants to the hospital help purchase urgently-needed equipment and train our nurses and allied health professionals."

Chemo Clinic: Quality care closer to home
Located on the main floor of Rouge Valley Centenary, the Chemo Clinic serves the needs of residents in west Durham and east Toronto. The chemotherapy clinic is a modern outpatient clinic where patients with cancer receive chemotherapy drugs as part of their overall treatment. We want physicians to know that referring their patients to the Rouge Valley Chemo Clinic will provide them with the same quality of care as they would receive elsewhere in a more convenient and cozy setting with caring professionals, who know their patients very well. D O N O R S T O R I E S | From Rouge with Love
Foundation Board members Gord Moore and Ann Moore spearheaded the February To Rouge with Love fundraising events to spread awareness of Rouge Valley Health System's excellent Cardiac Care Program. On June 8th, the Foundation was able to thank the hosts for a job well done as they collectively raised over $20,000. Kudos were given by ( photo L-R) Dr. Joseph Ricci, Program Chief, Cardiac Care Program; Chad Hanna, President, RVHS Foundation; Dr. Paul Galiwango, cardiologist; and Bernard Johnson, new manager of cardiac diagnostics and rehabilitation.

Tax preparation company's fundraiser helps families, hospital
From January 15th until the personal income tax deadline of April 30th, Argosy Securities Ajax Branch waived tax preparation fees for everyone who contributed a minimum of $20 to the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation to purchase urgently-needed health care equipment, like Pulse Oximeters, for Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.
Argosy helped both local families with their taxes, as well as the hospital with a donation of $655. Delivering the big cheque from Argosy on June 9th were (photo L-R) Preet Singh, Broker; Rita Sinha, Office Manager; Paul Ram, Broker; and Tutul Kundu, Branch Manager.

MRI On the Rocks
Ian McCutcheon, ServiceMaster of Durham, took part in the Celebrity Bartender Cocktail Hour fundraising event, where local business leaders donated all of their tips from one night working at a local bar to the charity of their choice. Ian chose to support our " Image is Everything" Campaign to bring an MRI to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. Ian was behind the On the Rocks bar in Whitby on June 9th, raising over $600 for one night's work!
Photos from the fundraiser can be viewed online on our Photo Gallery.

Buy a Bed's Rainy Booth
The Port Union Waterfront Festival held on Saturday, June 12th was unfortunately a short one due to thunderstorms. The Foundation's community outreach booth had information about our Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign, but we had to pack up just after lunch!

Image is Everything at Run the Lake
Some would call it chilly, but it was perfect running weather for the 17th annual Run the Lake held on June 12th. Proceeds from registration fees will be allocated to the " Image is Everything" Campaign to bring an MRI scanner to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus. Hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Ajax and Pickering, this popular spring event has something for people of all ages and all athletic abilities. Back by popular demand was the one kilometre run for students aged 13 and under.
"The Rotary Clubs have been donating a major part of their event proceeds to the hospital for years, and their support impacts patients' lives each and every day," said Tracy Paterson, VP Development, Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. "We look forward to celebrating the completion of the Campaign next year with our great partners at the Rotaries."

You're Invited! Free Family Fun Day at the Races
On August 15th, Ajax Downs and the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario, Inc. will be hosting a free community event -- funded entirely with corporate donations by themselves and event sponsors -- to give back to their community and to help the Foundation spread the word about our "Image is Everything" MRI campaign. They will also be donating 50 cents from the sale of every race program to the Campaign for this entire race season. Their goal is to raise $50,000, and they've already raised $20,000!
Launching the Free Family Fun Day at the Races event on June 15th were ( photo L-R) Tracy Paterson, VP Development, RVHS Foundation; Kim Ito, Jockey; special guests Hailey and Peyton; Greg Fernandes, Executive Director, Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario; Jennifer Collins, MRI Campaign Coordinator, RVHS Foundation; and Kara Ferguson from Ajax Downs. Be sure to check out the list of activities on our blog!

Grateful patient in the news
"It was the first chance Rose Robinson had to say thank you to the people who helped save her life and she wasn't going to let it slip by. The Pickering woman suffered four heart attacks on Oct. 28 of last year, including one in an ambulance on Hwy. 401, on the way to Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital. Ms. Robinson 'flatlined' during the heart attack on the highway, meaning the two paramedics and a nurse had to use a defibrillator to revive her. Ms. Robinson said thank you to Durham EMS paramedics Diane Bradshaw and Jodi Dochman during the" Cardiac Safe Community Program 2010 Survivor Day in Ajax.
