Congratulations to the bursary recipients!Nursing Bursaries Presented at Celebration of Learning
The Celebration of Learning and RVHS Bursary Awards Ceremony was held during Nursing Week on May 12th. It is held annually to recognize the Rouge Valley Health System staff who received Degrees and Certificates during the past year, and to congratulate recipients of Nursing Bursaries. The named bursaries are made possible by donors who have established endowments in tribute or memory of a loved one or colleague; these endowed funds are managed by the Foundation.

This year's celebration also saw the first awarding of funds from the Emergency Nursing Education Fund established with a $100,000 gift from Singer, Kwinter LLP.

In memory giftA Mother's Day Legacy
Horace Lam's last Mother's Day gift was bittersweet.

Horace and his sister Yuet Fun's mother, Shui Fong Hui, was admiteed to Rouge Valley Centenary on December 1, 2009. They were by her side for months and truly appreciated the compassionate care given by our physicians and staff. When it became apparent that their mother wasn't going to leave the hospital, Horace asked the staff what he could do to help the hospital while also commemorating his mom. That's when he learned about our Buy a Bed campaign. Horace was able to discuss the gift with his mother before she passed away on April 1st.

"During her stay, my mother's original hospital bed was noisy, especially when we adjusted the height of the bed," said Horace. "Fortunately, the nurse was able to find a new bed which was quieter and made a big difference. This highlighted to us that buying a bed was the perfect memorial gift."

Horace collected donations at her funeral service, the proceeds of which will purchase a new bed in memory of his mother. This last Mother's Day gift will help restore the comfort and health of patients for years to come.
