Greetings!
We've had a beautiful spring (this week aside), and it has been a great inspiration to us at the Foundation as we prepare for a multitude of upcoming events. Many of the events listed below are actually held by community associations, and we are lucky enough to get to host our own information booth. If you're looking for fun, free, family-friendly weekend outings, please mark your calendar. Then stop by and say hello; we love to meet our neighbours!

Stop! Clean Your Hands Day at RVHS
Last Wednesday was Canada's first-ever Stop! Clean Your Hands Day. To celebrate and create more awareness around the importance of handwashing, and how it helps to prevent the spread of germs and diseases, Rouge Valley's infection control team and other staff helped to provide demonstrations and information about the importance of good handwashing to our staff, physicians, volunteers, and patients. Posters, pamphlets and giveaways were also available. Glo Germ demonstrations also helped to drive home the message of the importance of good handwashing.

D O N O R S T O R I E S | Buy a Bed campaign launch for RVC
Our special celebratory Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign launch was held on Friday, April 30, 2010, and was attended by members of the campaign committee, engaged politicians, frontline hospital staff, and the media. With the generous support of the community, our goal is to purchase 100 new hospital beds for RVC over the next two years. The celebration included a donor procession, plaque bed unveiling, cake cutting and a very competitive contest called So You Think You Can Make a Bed: Suits vs. Scrubs. Want to know who won? MORE
You can view the photos from the launch and contest online on our Photo Gallery.

A very McHappy Day
Six Scarborough-area McDonald's have been busy fundraising to support their local community hospital. In combination with coin drives and car washes, partial proceeds from last Wednesday's McHappy Day will go towards purchasing new hospital beds for Rouge Valley Centenary via our newly-launched Buy a Bed campaign.
"As a local business owner, it is important to me to support our local community hospital," says Dale Bartlett, McDonald's Owner/Operator. "I am a proud supporter of Rouge Valley Centenary, and this campaign will benefit our customers and our staff because beds are being purchased for almost every department on every floor."

 Auxiliary hosts Region 7 conference
The Auxiliary to the Ajax and Pickering Health Centre is a member of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO), a provincial association advocating community partnerships in the support of health care in Ontario through education, fundraising opportunities and the promotion of volunteer services to people. In 2010, HAAO is celebrating its 100th Anniversary of supporting health care volunteers. One hundred years is a long time in the life of any organization, and HAAO is no exception. It represents decades of change and adaptation to the requirements of its members.
To mark this momentous occasion, the Auxiliary hosted Region 7's celebratory conference, A Century of Care and Counting, on April 27, 2010.
Photos from the conference can be viewed online on our Photo Gallery.

Auxiliary donates over $68,000
The Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering Health Centre held a celebratory tea on Sunday, May 2nd where they presented the Foundation with a cheque in the amount of $68,671.95 towards their Women's Imaging pledge. Last year, the Auxiliary's 200 volunteers and 35 students donated just over 44,000 hours in time at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus. Proceeds of $8,000 from their 4470 store went towards student bursaries, and the gift shop in the hospital raised over $24,000.
The tea was also a great venue for recognizing five founding members.

An early Mother's Day gift
Just a friendly thank you to all the hospital staff at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering for the safe and happy delivery of my second daughter, Abigail Beth, who was born on May 3rd at 2:50 in the morning with no complications. She was induced due to the temporary gestational diabetes that I had had with my pregnancy. My first daughter, Racheal Mckenzie, was also born at RVAP two years ago. I could not have done either delivery if it was not for your very helpful staff.
Sincerely,
proud parents Debbie Zuber and Colin Boucher |
