Breakfast Television
Are you a morning person?

Are you a friend of Rouge Valley Centenary?

Do you want to show the GTA how much you support your local community hospital?

If yes, then we need YOU!

Jennifer Valentyne will be hosting the Breakfast Television Live Eye from The Court in Rouge Valley Centenary on Thursday, April 29th in support of our new Rouge Valley Centenary Buy a Bed campaign.

We need lots of enthusiastic patients, physicians, staff, donors and volunteers to cheer on our bed races and bed-making competitions. Show your support by coming to the hospital at 6:30 AM and getting a good spot on the balcony.

The first 10 people who come -- and can stay for the whole 3 hours! -- will get a FREE Buy a Bed t-shirt to wear during the show!

For more details, please email Katherine Craine or call 416-281-7119.

See you there!

Jason and Alf with their permanent plaque at RVAP$100,000 Nursing Education pledge
Singer, Kwinter LLP made a $100,000 pledge to support both RVHS Emergency Departments' nursing education needs earlier this year. The Foundation held a gift celebration on April 6th to celebrate that gift, present the firm with a plaque to place in their corporate offices, tour the new RVAP emergency department, and meet some of the nurses who will be benefitting from the firm's generosity. Singer, Kwinter, LLP has over 30 years of experience in Personal Injury, Insurance Law, and Family Law. Besides the $100,000 donation to Nursing Education, Singer, Kwinter was a Bronze Sponsor at our recent Rouge Planet gala.

Thanks to the generosity of Shoppers Drug Mart customers and employees in east Toronto, more than $50,000 was raised for maternal and newborn programs and services at Rouge Valley Centenary (RVC) hospital campus through last fall's Tree of Life fundraising campaign. To highlight Shoppers Drug Mart's commitment to providing women access to health care resources, services and education to improve their whole health, the classroom within the Birthing and Newborn Centre (BNC) has been dedicated in their honour. The room is used for prenatal classes, with approximately 24-30 participants per month, as well as learning and development space for departmental staff, obstetricians, midwives and paediatricians. A gift celebration was held for Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacists/owners with the hospital staff on March 31st.

Third-party events put the fun in fundraising!Coaching for a cause
Local business Rob Vivian Coaching once again supported the hospital right in their backyard by hosting two coaching seminars for real estate agents. A huge success, this year's event raised $1,520 for Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus, surpassing their results from the year before by over $500!

National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is April 18 - 24. As we celebrate National Volunteer Week at the hospital, we are incredibly thankful for the many valuable contributions of our Volunteer Services and Auxiliary members to our patients, staff and community. If you're at either hospital campus next week, please take the time to fill out a congratulations card, or just thank a volunteer in a blue smock.
Fond farewells
It is with great sadness that we convey the news of the passing of two fixtures at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.

Margaret Langan was a wonderful volunteer for the Foundation for over 8 years, one of a troop of women we lovingly referred to as "The Scottish Ladies." Margaret loved to come into the office to help with our signature events, such as hand-tying ribbons to invitations to dress them up. Her charm and wit and laugh will be greatly missed.

April also saw the passing of the mother-in-law of long-time supporter and Vital Links Campaign Co-Chair Rene Soetens. Flo Ritchie was, as her obituary this week reminded us, "employed at the Ajax & Pickering hospital for over 34 years as that pleasant first voice one would hear when they called the hospital." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RVAP through the Foundation at 416-281-7342.

Excellent client service for long-distance patient
I was scheduled for a CT scan at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital. The day before the scheduled test, I received a call from my family physician's office to say that my creatinine blood test results were out of date, and that I would have to cancel my CT scan until I had up-to-date blood test results. Since I live two hours north of the city, my family doctor would have had to mail the test requisition to me. Then I would have had to get a local lab to send the results back to the doctor. Since I had been waiting for a considerable length of time already for the CT scan, I was frustrated by this development.

However, my faith in the professionalism and client service of your hospital was demonstrated by Judy, a clerk in your Diagnostic Imaging out-patient clinic. To save me a trip, she arranged to have the blood test done in the morning before the CT scan in the afternoon and have the results sent to the Diagnostic Imaging department stat. When I arrived in the morning, I went to the blood lab and found my requisition waiting for me. The test was done immediately, and there was a note on the file to have the results processed stat. Later in the afternoon, I arrived for my CT scan. There, Judy processed the paperwork, and I had the test conducted in a timely and professional manner by all your staff.

Judy turned around what could have been a very unpleasant situation quickly and efficiently. In a world where organizations preach client service, Judy actually put actions to words. I just wanted to let you know about my positive experience because of one employee who cares about her patients and provides excellent service.

Sincerely,
David S.
