Changing lanes: Cardiac patients recall the day their livesThe Sun shines on Rouge Valley
On Monday, the Toronto Sun newspaper published a two-page feature article on patient experiences in our excellent cardiac care program entitled Changing lanes: Cardiac patients recall the day their lives were altered -- forever by Tamara Cherry. Please read the journey of a few of our cardiac patients, and the great work of cardiac physicians like Dr. Joe Ricci, RVHS Cardiac Care Program Director. MORE

Gord, Joe, Ruth, Jim and AnnTo Rouge with Love for heart health
Last week, at five homes in the GTA, generous hosts and guests gathered to celebrate February Heart Month and Valentine's Day in support of Rouge Valley Health System's Cardiac Care program. The five To Rouge with Love events raised $10,175 to help purchase vital heart-saving equipment. Each home also welcomed a guest from the cardiac program explaining why this equipment is so important and how it will be used.

Special thanks to new Foundation Board members Gord and Ann Moore, who spearheaded the To Rouge with Love fundraising event to spread awareness of Rouge Valley Health System's excellent Cardiac Care program.

Photos from each event can be viewed online on our Photo Gallery.

Last summer, Foundation Board member Kula Sellathurai told his friend Sutha Kunam, owner of Cashpoint Foreign Exchange in Scarborough, about our Annual Golf Classic committee's challenge to purchase more vital signs monitors for Rouge Valley Centenary. Sutha accepted the challenge and Cashpoint purchased a $5,000 machine. We celebrated the delivery of this urgently-needed piece of equipment to RVC's 5th floor with (L-R) Sutha and staffers Ann, Dianne and Donna.

Thanks, cardiac rehab team volunteers!Heart cookie fundraiser
One activity as we celebrated Heart Month at Rouge Valley was the Heart Cookies Fundraiser from February 9-12. The cardiac rehab team of Brian Fullinfaw, Janet Hollingworth and Philomena Machado volunteered their time, selling out the heart-shaped cookies in the Rouge Valley Centenary lobby in just 6 hours! The ginger cookies sold for $3 for one or $5 for two. They raised $103, which will be used to purchase music for the cardiac rehab track and exercise sessions at RVC.

Out-of-town daughter grateful for mother's care

Dear Rouge Valley Centenary,

I am writing on behalf of my mother, who is 93 years old. Last November, she suffered a stroke and was taken by ambulance to your hospital. She was in a lot of pain with a blinding headache with the stroke, and was treated very well by the staff in the Emergency Department. From the nurses to the ER doctor to the Endocrinologist, all were extremely helpful. And then mum was moved up to a floor and again the nurses were terrific. She stayed for five nights and then was discharged. I am happy to report that she is doing well.

Please accept this cheque from her as a donation to your hospital.

Sincerely,

Shirley C.
