Greetings!
The Gift of Health

Today marks the launch of our annual Gift of Health campaign. Our newsletters will be red until the new year.

The holiday season is traditionally a time of giving, and this campaign thanks our donors and volunteers and reminds our community residents and local businesses about donation options that support the purchase of urgently-needed medical equipment and the building of new and renovated spaces at both hospital campuses of Rouge Valley Health System.

You can give The Gift of Health. Your gift will impact the lives of our patients and their families.

Please also show your support for your local community hospital, physicians, staff and volunteers today by posting a message on the discussion board or wall of our Facebook page. We will then add them to our campaign posters within the hospital for all to see for the duration of the holiday season.

RVAP NICUTwo new NICU beds for RVAP
Ajax-Pickering MPP Joe Dickson has announced that Ontario is adding two neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) beds at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus to ensure more newborns can get better access to intensive care closer to home. These new neonatal beds will enhance maternal and newborn care in Durham Region and ensure that more moms and babies have access to this essential health care service. Read the entire news release online.
Temporary change in visiting rules
Rouge Valley Health System is enacting temporary new visiting rules to ensure we provide the safest, quality care environment for patients, visitors, staff, physicians and volunteers during this H1N1 period:
  • One visitor per patient until further notice
  • Visitors must follow our personal protective equipment (PPE) rules
Those not following these rules will not be permitted to visit. Staff and physicians can inform you of any PPE requirements. Thank you for your understanding and compliance with this temporary measure. For more information on H1N1 and you, please visit http://www.rougevalley.ca/h1n1.
Canadian Patient Safety Week 2009 WinnerSupporting RVHS Canadian Patient Safety Week
In support of Canadian Patient Safety Week, which took place last week, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation announced that it would commit the $5,000 prize for the winning department incorporating this year's Ask. Listen. Talk. theme. The winner -- the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rouge Valley Centenary -- will use the money to purchase a Breast Milk Tracking System. This piece of equipment ensures that the right breast milk is given to the right baby. Congratulations to the staff from NICU, and thank you to everyone involved with improving patient safety at Rouge Valley.

Yvonne Snyder: A model volunteer
Yvonne Snyder generously volunteered to be the fashion show director for our FASHIONShow 2009 fundraiser on Sunday, sponsored by Sears Scarborough Town Centre.

"From my very first meeting with the Foundation and Sears team," she said, "I was impressed at their energy, dedication and caring to make a difference to the abilities of the health system and the community they serve."

The Foundation participates in many overlapping signature and third-party events to raise the funds needed to purchase equipment and improve services to our patients.

Despite bringing tremendous professional expertise to the event, Yvonne touts the contribution made by all the volunteers. "It has been a true pleasure being a very small part of this team, and hopefully I will be able to contribute my time to other Foundation efforts in the future," said Yvonne.
