Greetings!

Tree of LifeA special thank you to Shoppers Drug Mart -- especially Ome Jamal, Derek Hollett and Priscilla Luna -- for letting us help launch this fall's Tree of Life campaign. The health of east Toronto and west Durham women is a high priority at Rouge Valley, and proceeds from this year's campaign provides much needed funds to support important women's health programs at both hospital campuses.

And special thanks to you, too. When you participate in campaigns like this one, you are giving back not only to your hospital, but to your community and the families that rely on us.

Happy autumn.

RVHSF Communications Officer

Patient Appreciation Day 2009RVHS Patient Appreciation Day
Patient Appreciation Day was celebrated on October 1 to remind patients and their families that Rouge Valley Health System appreciates them placing trust in our hospital. Staff greeted patients and visitors as they entered the two hospital campuses in order to welcome them, give them bookmarks as a token of appreciation, and provide them with written information on hand hygiene to help keep them healthy this flu season. Moments that matter
My husband Roy unexpectedly became ill on May 29 and early on May 30 was seen quickly in the emergency department and admitted to the hospital, under the care of Dr. Michael Chan. Roy was discharged from the hospital on July 2. He required a further procedure on July 13 and received home care nursing from July 14 - August 25.

We want to thank Dr. Chan so much for his professionalism, dedication genuine caring and most of all for his understanding that a patient needs to be treated as a whole: body, mind and spirit. We feel very blessed to have had him treat Roy; his bedside manner was so appreciated -- knowledgeable, honest, kind and caring, and just what Roy needed during such a stressful and frightening time. In a world where people are very busy, he took those moments that matter.

In appreciation of Dr. Chan's professional and compassionate approach and his commitment to excellence, we are enclosing a donation to Rouge Valley Centenary in the amount of $500.

Sincerely,
Judy S.
