Greetings!
It goes without saying that we are extremely grateful to have your support, without which we could not meet the vital needs of Rouge Valley. At the Annual General Meeting, we had the opportunity to say the following thanks:
Thank you to the Labour of Love Campaign Steering Committee and Cabinet; they volunteered countless hours to bring the newly-opened Birthing and Newborn Centre to fruition. Thank you to Volunteer Services, and our corporate and individual donors for enabling the Foundation to fund $4.3 million of that $20.7 million project. Thank you to the Auxiliary, residents, businesses and the governments of Ajax, Pickering and Durham Region; our massive 140,000 square-foot redevelopment of our Ajax and Pickering campus is over 50% complete. Thank you to our community and monthly donors, our staff and physician donors, our event sponsors and our third-party event holders. In the year since our last AGM, we received 15,218 gifts; thanks to you, we were able to fund $600,000 worth of equipment, including vitally-needed, state-of-the-art items such as sentinel node biopsy equipment, transport monitors and vital signs monitors, and smaller-but-necessary items such as digital thermometres, fridges and wheelchairs.
Also at the AGM, the results of our solicitation efforts for last year were announced. Our 2008-09 Summarized Financial Statements are now available on our website, but if you would like to receive our complete financial statements, please call (416) 281-7342.

RVHS paediatrician earns top teaching award
Dr. Yehuda Nofech-Mozes loves his work as both a physician and an educator. As the director of paediatric medical education at Rouge Valley Health System, he helps to guide the first paediatrics experience that many medical students ever have. The University of Toronto has recognized his commitment to quality patient care and education, and has bestowed Dr. Nofech-Mozes with the Lionel Weinstein Clerkship Teaching Award. The award is presented to a member of the university's department of paediatrics who has shown excellence in teaching; has received the most nominations by students; has received the highest peer and student evaluations; and has shown innovation in his or her teaching and course development. RVC Granted Modern Stretchers
For many people, the hospital experience starts in the Emergency Department.
Two stretchers will be purchased for Rouge Valley Centenary's Emergency Department thanks to a grant from the Frederick and Douglas Dickson Memorial Foundation. These brand new, modern stretchers will help our Emergency Department with optimum patient flow to triage or ancillary services and with safety for patients and staff.
This is the first time that this foundation, which supports hospitals and education in Ontario, has donated to Rouge Valley.

 RVAP Auxiliary's Community Impact
The Auxiliary to the Ajax and Pickering Hospital, comprised of 191 adult and 50 student volunteers, works hard every day fundraising, keeping the public informed and at ease while in the hospital, and keeping the existing Auxiliary members educated and informed. They create a favourable climate for attracting new volunteers by impressing upon them the impact that the Auxiliary members have.
This year, $8,000 raised by the Auxiliary went into their Bursary account. They distributed 18 bursaries and awards to students during Commencements at six local high schools. This is their link to the community as the recipients are our future medical people.

Meet Patrons' Council Award Winner Eileen Mason
Our 2009 Patrons' Council Award winners are motivated by a true sense of generosity and willingness to help others, and their support -- both financially and of themselves -- were the building blocks of what we now know as Rouge Valley Centenary.
Eileen Mason signed up at the first meeting of the Centenary Auxiliary volunteers in January 1965, two and a half years before Centenary opened its doors. When the first shovel hit the ground, she was fundraising. She helped organize socials, and card parties, even fashion shows. She fundraised for the original building, for the Margaret Birch wing and, most recently, attended the opening of the new Birthing and Newborn Centre. Volunteering for 45 years, she's still active -- she's the convener for special needs, overseeing about 35 volunteers. She gives out ice water, feeds the patients, or just listens, holding a hand. She'll be the first to tell you that your local community hospital has been a huge part of her life.

Sincerest gratitude to both hospital campuses
When I drove my husband to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, he was suffering from severe chest pains and other worrisome symptoms. What was a very traumatic experience quickly became less so after we experienced the excellent and compassionate care given to both of us by all areas of staff -- nurses, doctors and technicians. Your professional and caring approach greatly helped to lessen our fears.
Subsequent testing at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital was also carried out in a prompt, caring and professional manner, with both us being reassured on an ongoing basis. I really felt that we were in good hands.
In this age of healthcare bashing, it is with relief and thanks that I am able to express my sincerest gratitude to both campuses for their top-class diagnosis and treatments during this stressful time. We both felt fortunate to have had such positive experiences, and so have no hesitation in letting our families and friends know how to support both excellent facilities.
Yours in thanks and appreciation,
