Greetings!

Summer brings weddings, and weddings need planning. Tribute Gifts offer a meaningful, touching alternative to standard wedding favours. In lieu of favours, couples can make a gift to the Foundation in honour of their guests to support their local hospital. Guests can also make donations to the hospital on behalf of the happy couple.

Summer also means Annual General Meeting time. This year's meeting took place on Tuesday evening at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club. New to the AGM was an equipment fair that showcased the medical equipment that was purchased during the past year, as well as equipment we hope to help purchase in the next 12 months. The fair demonstrated just how our donors' generosity results in better patient care. Photos from the AGM will be on our Photo Gallery in time for the next issue.

Paying tributeBeautification Day Pays Tribute
Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens annually hosts Beautification Day -- held this year on June 7 -- where families gather to remember their loved ones who have passed away, clean up the grounds and support their local community hospital. Mega Wraps provided the food, and the public were asked to make donations to support Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. There was a three piece band and a singer providing contemporary music, a very moving service, a moment of silence and then balloons were released with messages tied onto them.

Little runners, big winnersRotaries' Rainy Run
A little rain wasn't going to stop the devoted runners and walkers at the 16th Annual Run the Lake. Co-coordinated by the Rotary Clubs of Ajax and Pickering, the event held on June 20 was a great success. The Foundation held a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses. Medals were given to all the under-fourteen participants, as well as the winners of the individual classes, and the first place winners were given special awards. Proceeds raised from registration fees will be allocated to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. MORE

Waiting to deliver in our new Birthing and Newborn CentreFun Family Festivals
The Foundation participates in many community events in and around each hospital campus. We were able to take part in two this month, telling local residents about Rouge Valley Centenary, the hospital right in their backyard. Read the full stories and view photos online about the Port Union Waterfront Festival and Highland Creek Heritage Festival.

Meet Ed FleuryMeet Ed Fleury
The Scarborough Centenary Hospital opened its doors in July 1967, one hundred years after Canada became a nation.

Patrons' Council Award winner Ed Fleury was on the building committee for Centenary in 1964, then joined the hospital Board the year it opened. He took on the position as Chair of the Board from 1975 until 1980. He has since been recognized with an Honourary Life Membership on the Board of Directors for his caring and dedication to the bricks-and-mortar building -- now part of Rouge Valley Health System -- and all that it represents to his community. He is a true philanthropist, still sitting on many committees, as well as supporting several Foundation campaigns over the last 45 years.

A warm thank you to Rouge Valley Centenary hospital
Sent on behalf of the residents of 3650 Kingston Road

We had experienced an explosion on the 19th of March at 2:30am. We had great support from the staff at the hospital, especially the crisis nurses and counselors, who helped us overcome stress and feelings of depression. I've been in this neighbourhood for 22 years, and I've never experienced the warmth and the outreach and the understanding of the community as much as this. You gave support -- mentally and physically -- to help us through the last 3 months. We're glad to be back and to be part of this community again.

Thank you.

With kind regards,
Bibi
