Greetings!
We're as busy as ever, and it's all good news for Rouge!
Next month, we have several community barbecues, a new golf tournament and our AGM. (Invitations to the AGM will be emailed to you next week.)
If you're at the Scarborough Town Centre tomorrow, be sure to stop by the fundraiser barbecue being hosted by Sears at their north entrance.
The Foundation would also like to say congratulations to the Ajax Lions Club for celebrating 55 years of Community Service to the Town of Ajax.

H1N1 Update
Visiting at RVHS will revert to pre-H1N1 protocols: one visitor in the emergency department; two visitors elsewhere in the hospital - unless different arrangements have been made with the manager and/or nursing staff.

Mother Goose delivers at Rouge Valley
The week before Mother's Day, a Canada goose chose to lay eggs just outside Rouge Valley's newly-opened, state-of-the-art Birthing and Newborn Centre. The goslings hatched under the watchful eye of staff, patients and visitors alike.
"This goose family has been putting a smile on everyone's face," says mom and RVHS VP, Programs, Natalie Bubela. "Spring is finally here, and Mother Goose has chosen Rouge Valley just like other new moms, who are now delivering their babies in a home-like environment in the facility right next to her!"
More photos of the mother and babies can be viewed online on RVHS' photo gallery.

Walking with Heart
The 12th Annual Walk with Heart for cardiac rehab was held on April 25. Thanks to the highest participation rate to date -- with 511 walkers -- the walk-a-thon was a great success. Over $51,000 was raised, which will be directed towards additions and improvements for cardiac prevention and rehabilitation service.
Community support directly affects the quality of the service that Rouge Valley provides to our cardiac patients. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, donors, patients and families who participated in so many ways to make this event a success.

Every penny counts at St. Brendan's
In March, the "Save Time, Save Lives" Campaign launched by 23 Scarborough-area McDonald's restaurants was adopted by students at St. Brendan Catholic School. McDonald's fundraised for a portable ultrasound machine for Rouge Valley Centenary's (RVC) Emergency Department. St. Brendan, a local elementary school in the Rouge Valley area, filled paint cans with pennies, and raised $4,350. The winning class was Miss MacLean's Grade 1 class, with the students collecting over 80,000 pennies! MORE

Patrons' Council Award
The Patrons' Council Award was created to recognize an individual who has devoted their time and talents, shared their network of contacts and committed their skills to benefit the Rouge Valley Health System. Awards are made periodically, and only to recognize the most exceptional individual volunteer. The Foundation will be announcing the latest winners at the AGM on June 23, 2009. We will publish biographies of each of the winners in subsequent issues of this newsletter. |

Treatment included wonderful care and kindness
Dear Rouge Valley Centenary hospital,
I would like to thank the staff of Rouge Valley Centenary for the wonderful care and kindness they have given me during my short stay at the hospital.
I would especially like to extend my gratitude to the doctors and nurses for treating me with such consideration. A special thanks, too, to the physio-therapists in the rehab centre.
Thank you,
Richard A. |
