Every donation helps!

Greetings!

Planning for the summer yet? Be sure to add our events to your calendar. You can show your support for Rouge Valley by attending community barbecues, running a race or golfing at one of our three tournaments.

Our spring equipment campaigns by McDonald's and RBC have garnered a lot of press in the last six weeks! These events have been covered in eight different papers (in three different languages), as well as television coverage. Great Rouge news!

Lastly, the printed version of Community Giving, produced every two months, is currently available online our Publications page.

Happy long weekend!

Minister's Tour of RVAP RedevelopmentMOHLTC Minister Tours RVAP
Minister of Health and Long Term Care David Caplan made a quick stop at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering on May 4, 2009, to tour construction of the redevelopment of emergency and related services. Caplan was in Durham to speak to the Ajax and Pickering Board of Trade and decided to add RVAP to his schedule in the quickly-organized visit. Board Chair Janet Ecker, CEO Rik Ganderton, Site Chief of Emergency Dr. Gary Mann, Vice-President of Planning, Redevelopment/Facilities and Supplies Rick Gowrie and Aecon staff took the group through the construction of the many areas including diagnostic imaging (DI), labs and the new emergency area itself.

All is on track and on budget for the opening of the emergency and DI portions this August. The complete opening of the entire huge project will be in 2010.

Thank a nurseRVHS Celebrates Nursing Week
National Nursing Week is May 11-17, and this year's theme is "Nursing: You Can't Live Without It!" This annual celebration is an opportunity to promote and show appreciation for the vital role that nursing plays in the healthcare system and in the everyday lives of Canadians. On behalf of all staff, physicians and volunteers at RVHS, thank you to all of our nurses for all of the hard work, compassion and commitment you show every day.

2009 Bursary AwardsEndowments allow RVHS staff to pursue higher education
The Celebration of Learning and RVHS Bursary Awards Ceremony was held during Nursing Week on May 11, 2009. It is held annually to recognize the Rouge Valley Health System staff who received Degrees and Certificates in 2008 and 2009, and to congratulate recipients of Nursing Bursaries.

The named bursaries are made possible by donors who have established endowments in tribute or memory of a loved one or colleague; these endowed funds are managed by the Foundation.

A welcome additionSupporting newborns
Thank you to The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation for their outstanding support of the Birthing and Newborn Centre located at Rouge Valley Centenary hospital. Their recent grant of $7,500 has been used to purchase a NICU bassinet, which allows newborns to remain in the room with their mothers. Members were thrilled to tour our state-of-the-art birthing centre on April 30.

Thank you, Nurses!
Dear Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering Hospital,

I feel it very important to write that I received excellent care from Nurse Nicole and Nurse Michelle for my emergency cardiac care. They were extremely efficient, friendly and caring.

I think the healthcare at Ajax-Pickering is excellent.

Thank you very much.
