Every donation helps!

Greetings!

With all the glum news due to the economic downturn, we thought we'd point out a few happy constants:

Local businesses still value the role of the hospital in their communities: Over 20 Scarborough-area McDonald's are teaming up to raise money to purchase a life-saving portable ultrasound for Rouge Valley Centenary Emergency, and west Durham A&W's are donating proceeds to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering.

Philanthropy is instilled in students whose schools give back: The Foundation continues to receive donations from local daycares and schools, and we value each and every gift.

Rouge Valley is here when you need us: Both hospital campuses have experienced extensive growth in the last 12 months, offering you access to the best healthcare.

Rik GandertonClinical Services Plan
In his February 25th Blog entry, Rik Ganderton, RVHS President & CEO, discusses the Central East Local Health Integration Network (CE LHIN) Clinical Services Plan (CSP).

On February 17, 2009, the Board of Directors of Rouge Valley Health System received information on the Hospital Clinical Services Plan. The information was presented by CE LHIN Board Chair Foster Loucks and CSP Project Manager Susan Plewes. The plan represents the first phase and the initial steps towards "One Acute Care Network" which is defined as: Improved and equitable patient access to an integrated hospital system that provides the highest quality of care across the Central East LHIN.

For 60 days -- February 18th to April 19th -- the public is invited to offer feedback to the CE LHIN on the Detailed Report, via an online survey, a fax back form or by email.
Dr. Amir Janmohamed, CardiologistAdvice with heart
Guest RVHS blogger cardiologist Dr. Amir Janmohamed offered great advice in keeping with heart month in February.

"Regardless of age, it's never too late to add physical activity to your life," he says. Read why he believes that Heart Month should motivate us to get up and get moving. MORE

Roland Michener PSLocal school gives the gift of health to RVAP Paeds
Roland Michener Public School raised $750 to purchase a digital thermometer for the paediatrics department at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus. Digital thermometers have been identified by staff as a priority in order to maintain the best possible care for our patients; hospital staff rely on digital thermometers for fast and accurate readings.

How did they do it? Every year, a group of students, teachers and parent volunteers asks for gently used items that they can include in a Santa's Gift Sale. Items ranged from 10 cents to $2; the students were able to find great, inexpensive gifts for their family and friends while raising much-needed funds for a worthwhile cause.

A gift celebration was held at the school on February 27, with a plaque presented by Mary Ellen Stevenson from RVAP's Maternal and Newborn Services.

Wyndham Garden HotelHotel discount for staff and patients
The Wyndham Garden Hotel (conveniently located at the Don Valley Parkway and 401) has a special rate of $89 for Rouge Valley staff and patients in 2009.

This beautifully appointed hotel is newly renovated and all rooms have telephone, voice mail and data parts as well as high speed internet, TV, and in-room movies.

Not only is this a good deal for a beautiful single queen or double queen room, but $5 from every room booked under this group rate goes to the Foundation to meet Rouge Valley priority needs.

Reservations must be made to the hotel directly at (416) 493-9000 and the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation rate must be requested at the time of booking.
