Hospital Stories

RVHS Cardiac Care ProgramCardiac Care Program to benefit from 2009 Gala
Every year, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation sets specific goals to help support priority programs and technology at Rouge Valley Centenary and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campuses. The Foundation's annual signature gala focuses on a different area of need each year.

Making sure you and your loved ones receive the best quality cardiac care is a top priority for Rouge Valley, and proceeds from the 2009 Paint the Town Rouge gala will be directed to cardiac equipment. We are very proud of our Cardiac Care Program -- the best at any Ontario community hospital system. It is a regional Centre of Excellence serving east Toronto, west Durham and surrounding areas. Purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment will offer a complete package aimed at helping heart patients live longer, healthier lives.

Donor Stories
Chef Warren Berman supports RVHSDining for a Cause raises $3,500
Havana Restaurante, in partnership with Chef Warren Berman of Great Temptations Catering, launched its new tapas and dinner menu while raising much-needed funds for Rouge Valley Health System. Dining for a Cause was held on November 5, 2008 and raised $3,500. Havana Restaurante has been a staple in Ajax for nearly four years and the owners like to give back to the community that supports them.

"We are very supportive of local charities and feel that it is crucial to support each other in our efforts to grow a strong Ajax," says Ryan Moore, co-owner of Havana Restaurante.

Sheri Ferkl and staffChildren supporting children
Cardinal Leger Child Care Centre sent a donation of $500 last month, accompanied by a poster with messages from the kids and staff to the RVC Paediatric department. This year, the children, ranging in ages from 6-11, were very excited to support their local community hospital and the young patients there.

Nicholas Devon and AliciaThe children of Foundation Board member Bharat Hansraj once again visited the 7th floor of RVC to deliver Christmas presents, a donation from the boys, including Play Station games and books. Last year, they donated the Play Station unit. Happy to receive the gifts from Devon and Nicholas on behalf of the Paeds department was patient Alicia Mussari.
Volunteer Stories
Saryu and Indu DesaiMeet Saryu Desai
Have you been asked to buy a raffle ticket at Rouge Valley Centenary lately?  Chances are you've been asked by long-time volunteer Saryu Desai.

Committed to her local community hospital, and especially to our newest and smallest patients, Saryu showed her support by attending each and every milestone for the now-opened Birthing and Newborn Centre -- from the groundbreaking ceremony in 2007 to the Volunteer Services opening luncheon and Donor Recognition cocktail party last November (pictured here with husband Indu).
