WOW!

AND WOW AGAIN!

Let's say that one more time...

WOW!

Here's a few truths for you to ponder:

* We, as CCNC-N family are wonderfully generous! (This proclamation is based on the good news that YOU have donated and/or pledged $22,925 for the Annual Fund through the Phon-a-thon.)
* We, as CCNC-N family, are closing in on that $25,000 goal!
* We, as the Phon-a-thon Calling Team simply couldn't reach everyone we wanted to by phone. If you missed our call, we are sorry we couldn't connect. Because we estimate that we missed at least 40 persons, who are previous donors, we are making one last effort to call some more Disciples across the Region. This will be done by Sept. 21.

Another great truth is that your donation, support, prayers and willingness to help in so many ways is always completely appreciated. Repeating...another great truth is that your donation, support, prayers and willingness to help in so many ways is always completely appreciated.

Hopefully in the next few weeks, together we can celebrate the announcement that we have not only met our goal but we have exceeded it!  And the answer to your burning question is, "Yes, it's quite OK for you to donate more than your pledge amount, or even to donate more than once!"

For on-line giving capabilities...both by credit/debit card. Follow this link.

For "snail mail" giving: mail a check or send us your credit card #: CCNC-N Phon-a-thon, 9260 Alcosta Blvd. Suite C-18, San Ramon, 94583.

Men of faith can learn a great deal from each other. Much of the work of growing in faith happens in personal contact with men in the church. This type of interaction can transcend generations and cultures and build relationships of friendship and mutual benefit. All men of all of our churches are invited to attend and bring along a friend, a son, a father, a cousin. You will find each one has something to gain and something to offer.

Roger Jenks Our leader will be Roger Jenks, Senior Pastor at Grace Community Christian Church in Aurora, IL, an amazing speaker with a very wide background including writing Biblical curriculum, religion correspondent for a CBS affiliate, speaker at youth events and adult events and retreat and conferences, composer with  published music and a tennis pro!!

..."Everyone should attend this event" ~ Jim
..."Other than Ben's retirement festivities - this will be the best party of the year." ~ Sue

..."I wouldn't miss if for the world." ~ Karen

If the experts say it is the place to be, it must be true!  Load up the car, bring out the family - heck, why not bring the whole church? It's one day of fun, culture, faith and friends.  What could be better?
We're still accepting booth registration forms - so if you or your church wants to have a little fund raiser, put together a plan and share your ministry with all of us!   For more information, go to www.ccncn.org.

4. Bread for the World Sunday
Vince Mezzera, former moderator at FCC Vallejo, now working for Bread for the World in Washington, DC, has a challenge for CCNC-N:

"Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad.  We have thousands of member congregations joining us in our efforts to change the policies, programs, and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist.  Yet I have been surprised at how few Disciples congregations are among them.  But we can change that, and Bread for the World Sunday (on October 21 or another date this fall) is the perfect time to start!  This is a chance to join with Christians nationwide as we lift up our voices together in prayer and worship on behalf of poor and hungry people.  Participation could be as simple as a few prayers about hunger during worship--nothing complex necessary; we would just love to have as many different churches as possible participate in some fashion.  You can see the resources I have helped put together for this event at www.bread.org/sunday - please take a look and prayerfully consider whether your congregation can participate!"

5. South San Joaquin Churches Host Bible Study
"Is Homosexuality a Sin?" - A Serious
Question Only the Church Can Answer
Fri., Sept. 28 6:30-8:30 - Sat. Sept. 29 9-4
First Christian Church, Selma

Disciples are welcome to participate in this engaging study led by Rev. Dr. Sharon Warner, Retired Dean & Adjunct Faculty, Lexington Theological Seminary, as we explore the Bible references often (and sometimes not so often) connected to the question, "Is homosexuality a sin?" The purpose is three-fold 1) Give grounding in the Bible for those who know what they believe. 2) Give a discernment process for those who do not know what they believe by which one may see what God is saying.  3) Hear and understand a position not our own which will deepen and strengthen our own faith through humility.  Free registration is available by contacting FCC Selma at 559-896-2691 by Monday, Sept. 24.

finalwordFINAL WORD-

Georges & Gertrude Ngokas
Our Region recently received this e-mail from Rev. Georges and Gertrude Ngoka, our Global Mission Partners in the Republic of Congo. As they refer to Charlotte Lomponda, remember that she was sponsored by our Women's Ministries to visit our Region several years ago, but then was prohibited from doing so because of a VISA mix-up. As a key leader in the Disciples there, she died suddenly last month. Rev. Georges refers to her and to our Region in this note. We continue to celebrate the two week visit of the Ngokas with us this past April, and especially their time with 400 of us at Annual Gathering.

"Hello Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
The memorial service for Manman (Charlotte) Lomponda was celebrated last Saturday.
The highlights of the service included:
- Her biography, which was done by her oldest son, Bienvenu (Welcome)
- Testimonies by 2 women and a man who knew her well
- A word of thanks to her home church (Church of Disciples of Christ), the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Northern Ca-NV and to Global Ministries.
- Songs that were composed by various choirs inspired by the history or good works of Dorcas in the Bible
- Viewing of the video that was recorded during the funeral service in Kinshasa
- I also inform you that I was the preacher of the day.  My text was taken from Ecclesiates 1:2-3 and 7:1-4.  The theme was "Vanity of Vanities, All is Vanity."
It was at the end of everything that we (Pastor Eleka and myself) gave to her children in private the equivalent of $200 letting them know the origin of the money (from Northern Ca-NV).
Thank you until the next time.
Rev. George Ngoka.

World Communion Sunday 2012
World Communion Sunday- October 7

Established in 1936, when the world was deeply fragmented by the conflict that would be later known as World War II, World Communion Sunday (originally called World Wide Communion Sunday) has been an observance to help Christians all over the world affirm their unity in Jesus Christ as it is expressed so beautifully at the Lord's Table. Originating in the Presbyterian Church in 1936, the idea of World Communion Sunday was embraced and promoted by the Federal Council of Churches (now the National Council of Churches) in 1940. Other denominations, including the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),  began to join in this annual witness to Christian unity, which takes place on the first Sunday in October.

There  are a host of materials available for this special Sunday.  Check out these wonderful materials:
"A Reflection on World  Communion Sunday"
by John P. Mobley, Regional Minister, Alabama-Northwest. Florida Region. Click her for article.
