Blue Phone THE 2012 ANNUAL FUND PHON-A-THON IS (almost) HERE!!!

Last year, in support of the Annual Fund, the generous amount of $24,986 was given during the Phon-a-thon! This money provided the ability for our Region to offer a wide variety of excellent programs and ministries for our Regional family. On behalf of ALL of the people and churches who greatly benefited from your generosity... THANK YOU!

Which is exactly why we are doing it again - because more ministry and programming is and will be happening in our Region. There's more work to be done!

This year the Phon-a-thon will be conducted August 26-27-28, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, as our volunteers once again make calls inviting our Regional family to provide financial support.

The telephone conversations will be short (no more than 3 minutes) in order to respect your time and contact as many people as we can during the 3 days of the Phon-a-thon. If you are called, please know that it is because the person calling you believes that our Region is engaged in remarkable ministries and, well, we feel good talking about this good news with others. We are also calling because we believe our Regional family feels the same way and it's OK for all of us to have an opportunity to say "yes" (or "no") to an invitation to provide a financial gift to support our Region.

But, we also know we can't call everyone in such a short time. So...we have a new option to share with you this year. We now have on-line giving capabilities...both by credit/debit card and "e-check." And, you don't have to wait to be called! If you would like to make a gift now to the Phon-a-thon, you can do so by simply clicking the "Phon-a-thon Donation" button (on both the website at

www.ccncn.org and in the e-news) and entering the information. It's easy, safe and very appreciated. Once your gift is completed, your name will be removed from the calling list. (Of course, you can always "snail mail" a check in advance as well!)

Mission Springs

September, 14-16, 2012

"Spirit-Empowered Women"

Speaker is: The Rev. Amy Gopp, dynamic Executive Director of Week of Compassion who travels the world on behalf of 3,500 Disciples congregations.

Learn more at: http://www.ccncn.org/dwf.htm

For more information on Amy Gopp and Week of Compassion, go to: http://www.weekofcompassion.org/

Fall Retreat Registrations are coming in fast!  We forgot to give you a heads-up that scholarship offerings change as of Aug. 2--so we've decided to give anyone needing scholarship aid a few more days to get your registration in for the higher offer.  Sorry, the deadline for a larger scholarship is now past- August 6. After Aug. 6, the maximum scholarship granted will be $50.

ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE IN BY SEPT. 1!

Two options for registering are being offered:

The first is the traditional one... go to the website and download the registration form (or receive the registration packet in the mail), complete the form by hand, include your check or Visa/MC information, put it in an envelope, address and stamp it, and then mail it.

The second choice is the online option. In this, you click the link on the website on any announcement of the event through email, which takes you directly to the registration form. Fill it out online, put in your payment information for your electronic check or Visa/MC (and yes, the information is completely secure - we are actually using the same merchant provider that our denomination uses), and hit the "submit" button. And, it's done. You're going to Mission Springs! Very easy, very nice, and very efficient.

Bill Garrett MY TOP TEN REASONS TO SUPPORT OUR REGION

The Phon-a-thon is almost here. In preparing for this, I asked myself a simple question: "Why am I giving this year?" Good question. Just because I have given in the past doesn't necessarily mean I'll give in the future, right? So, what about it...Why am I giving this year?

To answer my question (and share it with you), here's MY TOP TEN REASONS TO SUPPORT OUR REGION (AND GIVE TO THE ANNUAL FUND PHONATHON):
10.  I really appreciated our 2012 Annual Gathering and all the work that went into making it a great event..and this year's was, well...WOW!
 9.  The ACTS classes continue to speak to issues that are significant in the life of our churches and individuals. Again, a lot of effort (and knowledge) goes into them.
8.  How incredible it is to see all of the diversity in our region. Quick, how many languages are spoken in the churches in our Region?
7.  Miracle Day. What an amazing experience and how great is it that our people support...really support this event with their time and money. Yes, Miracles still happen!
6.  Adult Camp, Youth Camps, all Camps. The attendance is up and the results are in: lives are touched and lifetime relationships are formed. What a gift we receive and share during these special times.

5.  CGC (kinda related to #6, but it needs its own mention). How many people have been to CGC? How many people really, really love what happens there. (OK, you can put your hands down now.)
4.  Men's Ministries. Women's Ministries. Young Adult Ministries. And other relational ministries. They make a big, big difference.
3.  ALL of our churches in the Region. Different sizes, different styles, different methods, different ways of just about anything and everything. And yet, here we are...family brought together by Christ to hold each other dear and find ways to share ourselves with the world. Another WOW!
2.  ALL of the people in the region. Look around and you'll see an amazing assortment of people, all gifted and part of this beautiful tapestry called the body of Christ. What a masterpiece. And, hey, how amazing that we always agree on everything. (Just wanted to see if you were still reading.)
AND #1.......
Ben, Paula, Sandhya, Cliff, Molly, Yolanda, Quan, Daniel, Carl, Sue, and Diana.

Simply put, they are amazing! What talent, devotion and energy! We are soooooo blessed!

Well, that's my list. What's yours?

Thoughts & Prayers

An update on Hazel James, who was placed in hospice care two weeks ago. Now, she is fooling everyone with new energy and strength. Hazel is a member at United Disciples Fellowship, San Jose, and for years a member at FCC San Jose and very active in regional leadership and programming. All three grown children and families are there with their mom. Our prayers of love and care surround them.

This request from FCC Alameda, Associate Pastor, Dr. Gloria Wilson: Please add my son for prayers:
Lt. MaShon M. Wilson
B/4-319 AFAR, 173d ABCT
FOB Airborne, Afghanistan
APO, AE 09364

Our prayers continue for Marlene Elliott, who along with her husband Bill, are decades long members and key leaders at FCC Corning, and both have several terms on the Regional Board. This past Monday, Marlene had her second of six chemo treatments for lymphoma. She deeply appreciates the prayers of so many. Send cards to: PO Box 474, Corning, 96021.

We continue to keep Pastor Mark Foglio, Oakdale CC in our prayers. Mark is now working with his doctors to make decisions about how to address herniated disks in his neck, which have been the cause of numbness and heart challenges. Cards of support can be sent to: Oakdale CC, 330 Maxwell Avenue, Oakdale 95361.

Pastor Taulau Tupua, Via Dolorosa Samoan Congregational CC of Modesto sends his deep appreciation for the many cards and prayers over this long and challenging battle with lymphoma leukemia. As he continues his second round of chemotherapy, he is driving to Stanford Medical Center twice a week for special "burning of the blood" treatments. Praise God he is still feeling strong enough to preach weekly. Cards to: 2329 Senimi Circle, Ceres, 95307.

Barbara Wikoff, musician at Oakdale CC, and husband Bob, Chair of our Regional Resources Committee is having some really good days right now following test results showing that the chemo treatments are working! She and Bob deeply appreciate all the prayers and ask that you keep them coming. Cards can be sent to: 941 Terrace Court, Oakdale, 95361.

Our prayers continue for the following who remain in need of our support and concern:
