WOMEN'S FALL RETREAT at Mission Springs

September, 14-16, 2012

"Spirit-Empowered Women"

Speaker is: The Rev. Amy Gopp, dynamic Executive Director of Week of Compassion who travels the world on behalf of 3,500 Disciples congregations.

Learn more at: http://www.ccncn.org/dwf.htm

For more information on Amy Gopp and Week of Compassion, go to: http://www.weekofcompassion.org/

As stared above, Women's Ministries is launching the online registration and payment option for the 2012 Mission Springs event.

Two options are being offered:

The first is the traditional one... go to the website and download the registration form (or receive the registration packet in the mail), complete the form by hand, include your check or Visa/MC information, put it in an envelope, address and stamp it, and then mail it.

The second choice is the online option. In this, you click the link on the website (or on any announcement of the event through email) which takes you directly to the registration form. Fill it out online, put in your payment information for your electronic check or Visa/MC (and yes, the information is completely secure - we are actually using the same merchant provider that our denomination uses), and hit the "submit" button. And, it's done. You're going to Mission Springs! Very easy, very nice, and very efficient.

MeetingATTENTION MINISTRY COUNCIL!!

Our next meeting is just around the corner...

Saturday, July 21, 9:00-3:00 at United CC, Livermore. Our major work of the day will relate to 2013 programming and ministry plans including a presentation on a possible mini-Miracle Day, Annual Gathering themes and speakers, and a possible overall theme for 2013 Regional Ministry!

Sounds like some pretty important work for the day.

(Just a reminder that the Ministry Council is composed of 5 elected members of the Executive Committee and one selected member from all Regional Mission Clusters of which there are about 15. Janet Hecker is Moderator and Sara Steenhouse is Vice-Moderator)

Regional Minister Search LogoDid you miss the E-Card Communication from the Transitional Regional Minister Search Committee that was sent out last Friday? It contains the latest update on their work. It is important for the Disciples around the Region to keep updated on progress being made as Ben's retirement date of November 1 approaches.

Global Ministries LogoWHEN OUR REGION VOTED TO BECOME A GLOBAL MISSION REGION THREE YEARS AGO, WE WONDERED WHAT THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE!

In 2012, we are experiencing the amazing impact of three sets of Global Ministries missionaries:

1. For two weeks in April, we traveled to Africa and the Republic of Congo, as Georges and Gertrude Ngoka traveled across our Region and into our hearts at Annual Gathering at Sotifel.

 2. We are in the midst of two weeks with Betty and Ken Frank, who are taking us to Turkey where they spent nearly 30 years in ministry. You still have time to hear their story.

July 8- FCC Sacramento- morning worship

July 8- Tapestry Ministries, Berkeley, 6:00 pm

July 10- Lafayette CC, evening group

July 11- Forest Hill CC, SF   6:00 pm

July 12-14- UCC, Redding

Call these churches for more details.

3. Finally for one week in August, Tom and Lynnea Morse, will take us to China, the world's largest nation.

Morse-Thomas

Their schedule so far is:

August 5- CC of Pacific Grove-morning

August 5- Sinapi Fellowship, Palo Alto

  (afternoon)

August 8- Forest Hill CC, SF-evening

August 12- Mayfair CC, Stockton

We are still looking for other speaking possibilities as well as people who would be willing to host them in their homes and/or provide tours in the Bay Area. WE DO NEED HOST HOMES!! Contact Ben.

By now, everyone should know this theme:

"Cultivating Disciples of Christ to become dynamic 'evangels' sharing the good news of God's transforming love."

What's next in the plans for this year???

Please let us know if you are coming be calling the church and leaving a message, 707-643-7973.  Thank you!

4. From Congregational Care, Paula Pociecha, Regional Staff:
Just like an athlete who cannot run and jump her/his best without good food and practice, church leaders also need the fuel of new ideas and spiritual training. The Office of Search and Call in Disciples Home Mission has a
hidden gem of a website called the Well-Fed Spirit that sets that sustaining table for church leaders - ordained, commissioned and lay.
Go to the Well-Fed Spirit website for resources here:
http://www.wellfedspirit.org/main_site/Welcome.html

5.  From your Friends at Lafayette Christian Church:
We are really looking forward to this year's Summer Adventures In Learning (SAIL) program at LCC.  Our theme this year is "Makin' My Mark on God's World - Kids Can!" Each day we will learn a new Bible story that teaches what a difference kids can make in the world by being who they are. Of course our mornings will also be filled with games, snacks, crafts, stories, singing, and other adventures as well, all designed especially for kids age 4 - 11 years old.  We think this is a great deal for only $20 per child or $40 per family of two or more.
You are invited to us each morning August 6-10 from 9 am to Noon for another great week of exploration and fun.  If you haven't already registered, please fill out the flyer on our website and return it to the church office so we can include you in our plans.  Please contact Rev. Sara Steenhouse with any questions at sarasteenhouse@gmail.com. Hope to see you at SAIL!

devotional A REPORT FROM YOUR REGIONAL
ALL PEOPLE'S PARTNER MINISTRY TEAM

All People's Christian Center

TOGETHER, WE'VE DONE IT!!  The Regional All Peoples/CCNC-N Team thanks the people and congregations of this region for generously supporting the purchase of health and toiletry items for 75 young campers at All Peoples Community Center.

You made it happen that our Region continues to reach out to All Peoples and support their ministry with youth in the South Central area of Los Angeles.  You affirmed for the All Peoples staff and families that we recognize and value the work they do for people.  You shared what you have - funds and vision! - with 75 children who will experience a week of adventures and fellowship in the mountains.  As we sent the health kits, we also sent the prayers of this region for all the good that may unfold, the doors that will open in the minds and hearts these children.

We are so proud to be in ministry partnership with All People's Christian Center, an historic Disciples
ministry since 1942!

All People's Project 2 All People's Project 1

THANK YOU, CCNC-N! Karen Barrett, Margaret Grose, Jeffrey Ishmael, Nancy McKee-Jolda, Chair.

praise the lord

Congratulations to Pastor Larry Love, CC of Woodland, who began a three month sabbatical last Sunday, July-September. Larry's final week before sabbatical was spent as co-director of the largest Junior Camp at CGC in many years.

CC of Woodland is welcoming Anthony Eggleston, recent graduate of Pacific School of Religion, as sabbatical interim, while Pastor Larry Love is on sabbatical.  Anthony is from Oregon and both of his parents are Discioples clergy. He is in process toward Ordination.

New members as reported:  Cottage Way CC, Sacramento (1 adult transfer)

Thoughts & Prayers

Our prayers are with Marlene Elliott, who along with her husband Bill, are decades long memmbers and key leaders at FCC Corning, and both have several terms on the Regional Board. Marlene is in Enloe Medical Center in Chico, have just completed her first chemo treatment for lymphoma. She hopes to be released by theend of this week. Send cards to: PO Box 474, Corning, 96021.

We continue to keep Pastor Mark Foglio, Oakdale CC in our prayers. Mark is still undergoing tests to determine the cause of the heart pains several weeks ago. The tests show the heart is in good shape, (hallelujah!) but there will be further tests now to determine the cause of the pain and the numbness on one side.  Cards of support can be sent to: Oakdale CC, 330 Maxwell Avenue, Oakdale 95361.

We continue to pray for John Grose, former Moderator of FCC Vallejo, as he battles a  recurrence of lymphoma cancer. John finished his chemo treatments two and a half weeks ago and is now receiving acupuncture treatments which are giving him renewed energy. He appreciates our prayers.

Pastor Taulau Tupua, Via Dolorosa Samoan Congregational Christian Church of Modesto sends his deep appreciation for the many cards and prayers over this long and challenging battle with lymphoma leukemia. As he continues his second round of chemotherapy, he is driving to Stanford Medical Center twice a week for special "burning of the blood" treatments. Praise God he is still feeling strong enough to preach weekly. Cards to: 2329 Senimi Circle, Ceres, 95307.

Barbara Wikoff, musician at Oakdale CC, and husband Bob, Chair of our Regional Resources Committee is having some really good days right now following test results showing that the chemo treatments are working! She and Bob deeply appreciate all the prayers and ask that you keep them coming. Cards can be sent to: 941 Terrace Court, Oakdale, 95361.

Our prayers continue for the following who remain in need of our support and concern:

Darrell Burrell, FCC Redding
Bea Tiffee, FCC Dos Palos

Violet Fields, FCC Oakland

Darla Foglio, Oakdale CC

Wanda, daughter of Gloria Baxter of Raynor Park CC

finalwordFINAL WORD

Vickie FirchThis article appeared on July 4 in the national news release "Disciples News Service": This ministry gets a little sticky

In June 2010, the youth class at First Christian in Sacramento, Calif. Was studying the Feeding of the Five Thousand, according to Matthew 14:13-21. Rev. Vickie Firch happened to have a jar of peanut in her bag that was destined for the food closet. The youth said, "This kind of miracle could never happen today. No one would ever share enough food to make it possible." So, Firch said, "I still believe miracles can happen. We could feed 50 people with this jar of peanut butter."

They, of course, took the challenge. The next week she stood up in worship and said, "I have told the youth that we can feed 50 people with this jar of peanut butter. I just need a little help to make the miracle happen. I need some bread on which to spread the peanut butter, some water and some oranges to complete the lunch."

By the end of worship they had enough pledges to feed 150 people. Pastor Firch says, "Each time we share our faith, our compassion and our love for the community through the outreach of the peanut butter ministry, we share the love of Christ." According to Feeding America's 2011 Meal Gap study, 17.2 percent of Sacramento County, or 236,950 individuals do not have food security.

On July 15, 2012, the church is planning to FEED FIVE HUNDRED. The entire congregation is on board. It will be the eighth Peanut Butter Ministry Outreach since that beginning two years ago. The lunches will be distributed in two locations; Caesar Chavez Park and at the door of Loaves and Fishes.

Contact Rev Vickie Firch  at firchrev@yahoo.com for further details.
