 Pear Pie Recipe

I love to bake pies and need to give full credit for perfect pie crusts where credit is due- my friend Jean Foss from Nederland, Colorado. One late August day, when the pear trees were laden, Jean whipped out this perfect pear pie and my taste buds jumped for joy.

Since then, we've been blessed to find welcoming pear trees to donate their wares to enjoy this pie each September. Furthermore, my personal tradition is to make two pies; one for my family and one to donate to an unsuspecting person we admire. Vive la tradition!

Crust:
1 cup flour
½ cup shortening
¼ tsp baking powder
Roughly 1/3 cup very cold water

Filling:
6 cups fresh pear
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/3 -2/3 C sugar
½ tsp freshly grated ginger

Mix gently together and place on bottom crust

Add this topping and bake at 350 degrees till done (+/- 30 minutes)

Topping:
½ cup margarine (or shortening)
¼ up brown sugar
1 cup flour
