TOP OF THE WEEK TO YOU!
(by realwired! CEO, Brenda Dohring Hicks)

Brenda Dohring Hicks

Top of the Week to You! is designed to offer the inside scoop and latest of what's important in the world of technology as it relates to the commercial real estate industry.

A Couple of Direct Questions

I've got a couple of questions for you that I hope you'll answer. I love to measure stuff because it's efficient.  It's the best way to figure out what to do at any given time, why others do what they do and most importantly and most frequently overlooked, measuring helps you decide when to stop doing stuff.  There's a saying that you must prioritize yourself, otherwise other people will do it for you.  I find prioritization really hard, but I keep working on it.  It's hard because for years as we were all growing up, someone else always took care of our prioritization.  Even as adults we have others who set priorities for us.  But we do have an awful lot of leeway in this area and so trying to set one's own priorities is the way to go.

But I digress a little.  I want to know about your priorities.  I want to know how you read this newsletter.  I want to know if you find that the articles are the right length for the most part and only sometimes too long, or if I need to make some adjustments.  I want to know if you are ever curious about my day to day business and what I do to live up to my tag line..."Streamlining the Business of Commercial Real Estate".  These are questions that only you can answer for me; I can't get them from web analytics.  Analytics are great and getting better all the time, but direct questions continue to be the best way to figure out what people are looking for, what they need, what they want and how to satisfy them.  I'm asking because I need to be sure that I'm prioritizing the kind of information you will find useful.  Please take a minute and give me short answers and don't worry, I won't be inundated by too many responses!  You see, that's one of the things I know from my measuring.

To put things in context, this column is just under 500 words which is considered a short article.  Long is 1,000 words or more.  Assuming a reading speed of 200wpm, this week's column should take you 2 minutes to read.  Studies have shown that a diet of short articles is what we all want on the web.  We all tend to be ruthless in abandoning long-winded writers on the web.  So will you help me make sure you are getting what you want?

Here are the questions:

1.    Do you find the articles too short, too long or just about right most of the time?

2.    Are you ever curious about my day to day business and what I do to "Streamline the Business of Commercial Real Estate".   And if so, what have you done to learn more?

In return for you answering my questions, I'll be happy to answer anything you ask me. Anything, really.
