I like kicking people in the head. As a martial artist first starting out in my mid-30's (late-bloomer) with Lugo's Shuri-Ryu Karate, I thought the singular point was to punch, kick and knee your opponents. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to attack. Problem is they attack back.
Sparring is great to cleanse your mind. You can't worry about an appraisal you might be struggling with when a black belt is in your zone. Pause...get punched. Hesitate...get swept to the ground. Procrastinate...you might be the lucky recipient of a heel in your solar plexus. However, I found out years later there is much more to the art than violence.
Bruce Lee said, "Action is a high road to self-confidence and self-esteem". So get off your procrastinating "butts" and get going! Complete things you have started. Start things you've been putting off. For me, it's about time I get my MAI; for you it might be something else. It might be significantly increasing your personal appraisal production, working more efficiently, less hours, fine-tuning your appraisal staff, seeking out new appraisal lines of business, more education or whatever.
Strive for professional designations or distinctions that make you the "go-to" commercial appraiser in your market. Participate in organizations, be a good public speaker - sharpen your skills with Toastmasters.
Water can be very soft and flowing. It can also be powerful; think tsunamis. If we work to be more flexible, both physically and in our thinking, new mental doors are opened. Go with the flow, both professionally and personally.
Martial arts is a lifelong pursuit to conquering the inner self by emphasizing personal and spiritual development: living a better life. Approach your appraisal profession in the same way and I promise things will be fresh and new, not the daily grind. Avoid assumptions and negative feelings. De-stress your life, strength with softness, conquer fear, gain self-respect, be confident, be spontaneous, be free.
