Carrie Dancy

Dear East Somerville Friend,

This summer the ESMS office is abuzz with marketing terms like "target market," "tagline," and "logo," as we work hard to create a new brand for the Broadway Business District.  But is this just some slick marketing effort?  Quite the opposite; it is a community campaign to have the reputation for our community's center match the great things happening here.  Over  50 businesses, organizations and residents have already come together to work on this campaign, and to generate a marketing plan that will continue our positive trajectory and preserve our character.

Now we need your help: take 2 minutes to complete our branding survey here and to review the potential marketing statements in the Volunteer Opportunity section below.

Warm Regards,
Carrie Dancy - Executive Director, East Somerville Main Streets

Behind the Scenes

A lot of different people help East Somerville Main Streets run from day to day.  For our behind the scenes this month, we want to introduce our newest addition to the ESMS family, Anya Rose, a student at Northeastern, who will be working with us full time for the next 6 months.

Hello!  My name is Anya Rose, and I am very excited to start my internship at East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS).  I am a student at Northeastern University, where I am studying International Affairs and Economics.  My decision to focus on the study of international development was highly influenced by trips to El Salvador, Honduras, and Haiti as a child.  There, I quickly fell in love with the variety of cultures, generous people, and amazing food.  I was delighted to find all of these great qualities here in East Somerville!  I am looking forward to working with ESMS, and the people of this community to help maintain East Somerville's vibrant way of life.

 Neighbor of the Month

The Robichaud Family

East Broadway's Robichaud Family embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our business district a destination.Paul, Gail, PJ, Colleen, and Suzanne (as well as Robert, not pictured) can be found on any given summer day working happily in their three family businesses: Robi Tool, Joe's Liquors and Louie's Ice Cream.  Most recently the Robichauds all came together to make the First Tuesday's event at Louie's a success!  In addition, they put in an extra effort at Carnaval at SomerStreets every year, bringing in a balloon artist, and putting on extra staff to do face painting all day!  Thanks to the Robichauds for helping make our business district a center for the community.
Windows on World Food

Have you noticed

fun and fruity artwork sprinkled among East Broadway's storefronts?

Pictured here: A workshop at the Prospect Hill Academy, making art for this spring's installation - still in windows on Broadway.

The children's artwork you might have seen along Broadway is part of East Somerville Main Streets' partnership program: Windows on World Food (WoWW). WoWW is a series of window installations created by East Somerville Main Streets and community youth.  The mission of the project is to celebrate healthy seasonal food choices and diverse local flavors while brightening the East Broadway Business District with colorful art.   Our next installation theme to close up the summer:  PICNIC!
