Behind the Scenes
This month we set out to begin several visual improvements in the neighborhood. We partnered with the City of Somerville for the yearly clean up and our devoted volunteers came out in the pouring rain! We also enlisted the efforts of one of our green-thumbed volunteers, Eric Barry, to bring some color onto the sidewalk with our new beautiful flower pots in front of the office.
The latest addition to our office are three pictures of Broadway designed by Althea Chen. Come by the office to see how great they look!
Read our blog post on how little improvements like these ones drive the big ones!

Neighbor of the Month
Nathan Kimborowicz
Nathan Kimborowicz,
East Somerville Main Streets Volunteer and East Somerville
resident, has been helping out with ESMS since December when he volunteered to
sell cookbooks at a community event. He then stepped up to help plan and
promote the 2010 Annual Party in March and now is chairing the Business
Membership Organization committee. He also wrote a community blog post about the neighborhood in April highlighting the history of the area. Nathan
has been a driving force in the successes of 2010 and is continuing to bring in
new perspectives and fresh ideas to the organization.

The Eastern Current

Anne-Marie Fitzgerald,
East Somerville resident, was our May
Community Blogger on our blog, the Eastern Current. She wrote about how she and her partner, Lynda, transformed
their backyard from looking like "a trash heap, with a cesspool in the middle"
to featuring a wonderful array of colorful flowers, herbs and vegetables. She
even discovered a little bit about community in the process! Visit our blog to read the
full post and many others about the East Somerville
neighborhood.
