ESMS Annual Meeting a Success! Thanks
to everyone who came out to East Somerville Main Streets Annual Party on Tuesday! Over 80
people joined us at Café Belo to celebrate. It was great to see many new faces
coming out to get more involved in the neighborhood!
The night included a special Citation presentation to ESMS Board Member Freddy Caruso from city and state officials (pictured above) for his volunteerism. After this kick off of ESMS's 'Year of the Volunteer', presentations were given by 5 of the organization's volunteer leaders: Eric Barry, Laura Vivenzio, Renee Polcaro, Matt Martino, and Christian Waeber. Monica
Lamboy, Director of Somerville's Office on Strategic Planning and Community Development, also spoke about the City's investment in seeing the growth and development of East Somerville. Check out pictures on our Picasa Web Album or Facebook. If you want another take on the event, check out this blog posting about our party!

East Somerville Chef of the Month Flo Papagno
Flo
has run the Cross
Street Senior
Center for more years
than she can count and has lived in the neighborhood for longer than that. So,
for East Somerville know-how, Flo is the woman
to see! Flo moved to East Somerville from East Boston
with her family when she was 9 or 10 years old, and grew up on this tasty
improvement on regular yellow cake. Her mother started using this recipe
because they could not afford to purchase a Ricotta pie . . . but with this
quick and easy recipe, who needs a bakery?
Ingredients:
1 Package yellow cake mix
1
Large ricotta package (about 2 Lbs)
3/4 cup sugar 4 eggs 1 tbsp. vanilla
Steps:
Preheat oven to 350.Mix cake mix as directed on
box.Grease 9 x 15 in pan.
Pour batter in pan.
In a separate bowl, mix
Ricotta, sugar, eggs, vanilla.Pour cheese mixture over
batter and spread - do not mix!
Bake at 350o for
45 minutes.
Let cool, and serve!
