East Somerville Reads: Seedfolks
Book Discussion
6:45pm - Thursday 10/25
East Branch Library
Join East Somerville Main Streets and the East Branch Library for a special evening to discuss the book Seedfolks and its themes of community unity and ownership. Refreshments generously provided by The Friends of the Library.
Copies of Seedfolks (a very quick read) are available to check out from the circulation desk at the East Branch Library.
Wednesday 10/24, 3:00pm: Clean Sweep Anti-litter Poster Making for kids. Posters to be hung along the library fence to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining a Clean Broadway. Fresh fruit snack and prizes to be offered! |
Synopis: A vacant lot, rat-infested and filled with garbage, looked like no place for a garden. Especially to a neighborhood of strangers where no one seems to care. Until one day, a young girl clears a small space and digs into the hard-packed soil to plant her precious bean seeds. Suddenly, the soil holds promise. Thirteen very different voices - old, young, Haitian, Hispanic, tough, haunted, and hopeful - tell one amazing story about a garden that transforms a neighborhood. Multiple copies (10+) on hold at the East Branch Library! Get yours today. | |
3 Fridays!

What a trip.
From an opening night soirée in Italy, to side-splitting Brazilian slapstick--Under the Stars International Movie Nights were a smash success. Gathering nearly 200 people over the 3 weeks, with each movie night offering its own unique flavor and twist.

Thursday Night Fever?
Acoustic Open Mic Nights at Casey's
While bellbottoms might be best left at home, Casey's Bar, at 173 Broadway, is hosting Acoustic Open Mic Nights from 8:30-12:30pm every Thursday. They advertise to singers and songwriters to "bring your guitar and register." Casey's, a fresh example of the City's Storefront Improvement Program, also offers live DJs on weekends.

Business Under the Looking Glass
Instant Shoe Repair
Anymore, shoe repair shops are hard to find, and good luggage repair borders on an unreasonable request!

Luckily for East Broadway patrons, both are at their fingertips. Instant Shoe repair, located at 22 Broadway, not only repairs shoes and luggage onsite, but also offers a variety of shoe maintenance items to keep all ten of your toes, dressed to the nines! Included in the selection are hard to find inserts, laces, and polish. The owner Sammy, has extensive repair experience - formerly with an additional satellite shop in Cambridge, and now focusing his efforts on Broadway.
