New Milford Public Library will soon have the honor to be a participant in the Foundation Center's national network of Cooperating Collections. The Foundation Center of New York is the nation's leading authority on organized philanthropy, serving grant-seekers, grant-makers, researchers, and the general public. By becoming a Cooperating Collection, NMPL will offer local grant-seekers access to the information and training that the Center provides, both online and in a core collection of print directories and proposal writing guides. |

In the last issue of this newsletter we mentioned many of the online services that the library offers, ranging from finding full-text articles to practicing taking the SAT, as well as all the items available for check-out. Have you noticed, though, that the Library also offers many other things to do?
Most of you with children are well aware of the many and varied programs that we offer for them. However, you may not be as aware that we are now offering many more programs for adults, as well. We have instituted Monday Movies at NMPL, a foreign film series on the second Monday of every month at 2:00 PM. Come in, watch a wonderful movie, have a bite to eat, and maybe talk about it a bit. We are also offering introductory computer courses that range from beginning Word and Excel to Library Online Services and Writing a Resume. Space is very limited, so sign up as soon as you see it! In addition, a group is meeting the last Tuesday of every month to discuss life as Baby Boomers. They are caring for kids, caring for parents, preparing for or already in retirement - yes, they are definitely the Sandwich Club - does this describe you, too? The group will also help determine what the Library can offer this generation as it approaches its next milestone. These are ongoing programs and if you have ideas for others, please let us know.

| From Books to Film - Laurie Putnam - Public Services Librarian |

Often when we watch a movie we never realize that the movie began as a book. When I compiled this list of films that began their life as a book, I hoped it would be of as much interest to you as it was to me.The library owns a copy of each book title and a copy of each movie.
No list is ever complete and this one is only meant to offer some suggestions for your entertainment. More booklists can be found on the website www.englishcompanion.com/Readings/booklists/ihar.html
