MTA and CGIS earn recognition for using GIS to improve our world
The Maryland Transit Administration and CGIS received a Special Achievement in GIS award in the Transportation category at the recent Esri International User Conference for developing the Maryland Bus Accident Mapping Application. The award recognizes significant contributions and advancements through geography.

Implementing GIS for Public Safety
at MEMA, Maryland's Emergency Management Agency  


CGIS helps MEMA build and maintain a GIS technology toolkit

osprey screen shot When Hurricane Isabel was about to make landfall in Maryland in September 2003, CGIS voluntarily offered GIS staff and expertise at the state's emergency operations center to help create on-the-ground situational awareness during all phases of the storm. Since then CGIS has been helping Maryland's emergency managers use the power of GIS to prepare for, assess, respond to, and recover from emergency events. Because many of the problems that natural and manmade disaster events cause are inherently spatial, GIS technology has become a vital component of emergency management's science and technology toolkit.
