GIS helps boost workforce development in the construction industry

CGIS expertise plus free and open-source software recently made customized, interactive mapping affordable for the Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation (MCCEI). MCCEI is a public-private partnership formed to promote the construction industry as a career path. To help prospective students find the training that suits their needs and preferences, and meets industry requirements, CGIS created an Education and Training map application for the new MCCEI website.

United States Geological Survey Grant Awards

CGIS was recently awarded National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) cooperative agreement grants in two categories. For a Category 3 GIS Inventory project, CGIS will partner with MSGIC and work with state and local government to populate Ramona, the national GIS inventory system, with metadata for nationally significant geospatial data themes. CGIS will also campaign to encourage more government entities to inventory their unrestricted geospatial data and services. For a Category 7 Cloud Services evaluation project, CGIS will set up Maryland's basemap in Amazon's Cloud then compare a range of parameters between the Cloud and the state's current MD iMap hosting environment to determine the potential benefits of Cloud hosting. Besides enhancing Maryland's geospatial data infrastructure, both projects will contribute to national resource-sharing programs.
