CGIS supports Maryland's environmental sustainability projects

george edmondsCGIS programmer George Edmonds works on-site at Maryland DNR in Annapolis. We made time recently to learn a few things about the ways he helps Marylanders by helping DNR.

Which division of DNR are you currently working for?
I'm in the Geospatial Information and Analysis Group in the Chesapeake and Coastal Service Division, in D wing of the Tawes Building on Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis.

Tell us about your projects.
The Working Waterfronts pilot project is a socioeconomic study that identifies working waterfront communities based on the 2008 Working Waterfront Commission report. Our study area is the Choptank River Watershed. So far we've created a report and determined locations to investigate using queried data from parcel information and different DNR location databases for place types like marinas. Some key points of discovery will be to determine areas that have water access needs, sufficient parking, fuel areas, and moorage.
