News from the President - Wayne Watkins
watkins Planning for Summit 2009 is underway!  The Summit will be held in San Antonio on October 11-13, 2009, at the Westin Riverwalk.  Contact me if you would like to be part of the Summit planning team.  We still need a few extra folks to assist with planning the panel presentations and some special workshops that will be held during the Summit. We would like to encourage you to submit plans for panel presentations and to submit applications to compete for Awards of Excellence.  Additional information about both opportunities will be forthcoming soon.

Watch for UEDA to add university economic development related resources and content to a member-only portion of the Web site. We will also be introducing a series of informative Webinars this year.  For more information about the Webinars, contact Ed Morrison or Ken Dobson. We continue to have increasing interest in, and recognition of, the role of higher education in economic development.   We encourage you to continually be in front of community and regional leaders with the opportunities, facts and the various programs that exist and that are emerging to assist in this important work.

leslie pachol Dear Friends,

I don't know about you but I thrive on challenges.  So I thought I would offer you a challenge - - -

Get one university or business in your state to become a new UEDA member.  The first 15 people who meet this challenge will receive special recognition for their programs during the 2009 Summit!  It's easy.  Just call or e-mail your colleagues and discuss the benefits of UEDA membership.  Direct them to www.UniversityEDA.org for information about joining UEDA.  Let the challenge begin!

From the Council on Competitiveness
Over the past two months representatives from many of the Obama-Biden key transition teams have engaged with the Council on Competitiveness seeking advice and counsel based upon the Council's work.  These meetings, coupled with our ongoing work with members of the Congressional leadership on both sides of the aisle, have resulted in many of our recommendations becoming part of the path forward for our nation.
