News from the President
hurdThis is quite an exciting and busy time for UEDA.  First, the Summit is only five weeks away.  At the Summit, we will hear inspiring presentations and best practices from our colleagues from around the country.  Check out the Summit agenda on UEDA's web site.  In addition, take a look at all of the sponsors and partners that are supporting this year's Summit. Register now to attend the Summit.

Second, UEDA is about to elect two new officers and five new board members.  You can read all about the candidates on the web site as well.

Third, the Board is proposing new bylaws for UEDA. The new bylaws reflect the modernization of the organization and best practices for non-profits. Ballots along with the current and proposed bylaws were sent to voting members on September 30 via e-mail. Please take the time to review and vote before October 30.

Fourth, UEDA has the pleasure of welcoming nine new members.  Please join me in welcoming our new members, who you will have the opportunity to meet at the Summit in November.

NOTE:  Please be sure to reserve your hotel rooms at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront before October 9, 2008.  On October 9, the hotel will release the block of rooms, previously reserved for UEDA's Summit, to the general public.

See you in St. Pete!

Congress remains in session this week although they had decided months ago that they would be finished by September 26 to allow members to return to their home districts to campaign for reelection. In observance of Jewish New Year, the House is in recess until Thursday and the Senate until 6:00 PM on Wednesday; however leadership in both chambers is currently at work trying to work out a compromise on the "Wall Street bailout package" that they feel can be passed by the end of the week. However, at press time the Senate was planning to vote on a new "rescue package" when it returns Wednesday evening.
