leslie pacholUEDA's Board of Directors had a great meeting in San Antonio, Texas on June 26 and June 27.   The Board is finalizing plans for the 2008 Summit and beginning to plan for the 2009 Summit.  In addition, UEDA is seeking nominations to serve on the Board of Directors.  Please contact John Roberts to learn more about nominations for Board positions.

The 2008 Summit is going to be great.  Read this newsletter to learn about some of the interesting panel presentations and guest speakers that are on the agenda for the Summit.  I'll send you information soon about registering for the Summit.  See you in St. Pete!

In last month's newsletter, we announced that Dr. Karen A. White, Regional Chancellor of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, will be speaking at UEDA's 2008 Summit.  In addition to Dr. White, the following speakers have been confirmed:

Women make up almost half of today's workforce, yet hold just a fraction of the jobs in certain high-earning, high-qualification fields. They constitute 20 percent of the nation's engineers, fewer than one-third of chemists, and only about a quarter of computer and math professionals.

With less than a month before Congress begins its month-long August recess, a tremendous amount of work was achieved just before the beginning of the July 4 recess.   To date, the House Appropriations Committee has reported out five spending bills (Commerce-Justice-Science, Energy-Water, Financial Services, Homeland Security and Military Construction-Veterans Affairs), with seven bills remaining to be finished after the recess.  However, despite intentions to finish the 2009 appropriations bills before the August. read more>>
