From Your Pastor | |
Have you ever been caught up in a cycle of gratitude? What I mean is, has someone ever given you a gift that was so thoughtful, kind, generous, and every kind of wonderful that your thank you took on a kind of "gift" nature of its own as opposed to a simple note or other acknowledgement? And then did that thank you, that was actually more like a gift, elicit another thank you from the original giver that started the cycle all over again?
It's a wonderful cycle to be caught up in--a virtuous cycle instead of a vicious cycle.
Lately I've been caught up in one. Actually, I've been caught up in several. If I drew them, they might look like rings spreading out on the water, or the broadening circles of a nautilus shell, or swells of soft serve ice cream balanced on a cone. They'd be beautiful.... |

Sunday Morning Worship | | December 11 at 9:00 and 11:00* am
"Lessons and Carols: O Little Town of Bethlehem" Rev. Karen Thompson
2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16
Now when the king was settled in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, the king said to the prophet Nathan, "See now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent." Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that you have in mind; for the Lord is with you."
But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: "Go and tell my servant David: Thus says the Lord: Are you the one to build me a house to live in? I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent and a tabernacle.
"Wherever I have moved about among all the people of Israel, did I ever speak a word with any of the tribal leaders of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, 'Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'
"Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David: Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep to be prince over my people Israel; and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth.
"And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and evildoers shall afflict them no more, as formerly, from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house. Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever."

Six photographs were produced on 12"x16" wrapped canvases and are on display in the Fellowship Hall of MCC Austin for this silent auction fundraiser. The gallery display
continues from November 20 through December 11. All proceeds, minus the cost of
production, will go toward supporting the ministry of MCC Austin.
Each photograph is titled and bids will start at $38. The auction continues until Sunday, December 11 at the end of the 11 a.m. service.
These unique, one-of-a-kind, canvas prints are a wonderful way to support our community while encouraging the gifts in each other...procrastinate and you may lose out. Thank you for your support!
Meet the photographers on December 11.

| You Have Heard Your People Cry | | By Len Shelton
Exodus 3:7-15
Exodus 4:10-17
When you are asked by someone to tell them why you worship at Metropolitan Community Church, I wonder what you say that answers their question? Letʼs see how closely I can guess.
I believe you worship at MCC because you have heard your people cry. You know that MCC is not the only church that cares for your people, but you also know that MCC is the only church that cares for your people on the same level as you do, in the same way that you do.
Yes, you believe that God has raised up MCC within the Christian faith for just such a time as this. A time to change the status quo by giving a voice and acceptance in the church to your Christians brother and sisters. It is very easy to feel safe and secure here on South First Street, Austin, Texas, USA. So much so that it is too easy to pretend that your peopleʼs cry is just white noise. In your heart you know better. Millions of your people around the world long to be safe and secure on their street just as you are on South First Street, Austin, Texas, USA.
There are so many opportunities to be a part of this great movement. Is one approach more important than another? No, of course not, but I encourage you to consider the ministry of service as a member of the
Board of Directors. Certainly not every church member is a good match for such work, but you know that you are! Your people are crying out to you!
Would your election to the MCC Austin Board of Directors contribute greatly to changing the outcast status of your people? No, Iʼm sorry to say it will not. While such social injustices do not change so easily, I am reminded of the ripples created when a small pebble is dropped into a pond.
